SARATOGA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION

Chairman Vallone called the meeting to order at 7:35
p.m.
A. RRLL ~ALL Present: Franklin, Saunders, Pierce,
Vallone, Clemens. Absent: Pakula, Nard. Staff: Dan
Trinidad, Joan Pisani, Sharon Trejo. Others Present:
Stan Thompson, Bill Morris, Karen and Chris Dodson, Ken
Archdeacon, Marianne Swan, Dave Johnston.

Minutes of the July 13, 1987 meeting approved as read.
Agenda was posted on City Hall kiosk, September 10,
1987.
After much discussion it was decided to divide the City
map into sections with 2 or 3 Commissioners assigned to
each section for the purpose of evaluating the trails
and pathways system. Each Commissioner will get a copy
of the Trails and Pathways Task Force Report and the
Midpeninsula Trails Council's rough draft of their trail
assessment tool to use as aids in obtaining ideas for
developing criteria for rating the trails. This will be
discussed further at the October 5th meeting.
Marianne Swan of the Community Gardens described their
programs and the need for relocation. Commissioners
will look at the park site. Commissioner Pierce moved
that a public hearing be held at the October 5, 1987
Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. Commissioner
Saunders seconded the motion. It was unanimously
approved. Neighbors and Homeowners Association will be
notified.
Members of the "Wombats", an informal adult softball
league were present and discussed their interest in
keeping the parks available for citizens to have
non-structured activities. Dan told the Commission of
the problems we are having because the City does not
have enough facilities to accommodate all the groups
requesting them. Commissioner Pierce supports free
play, Commissioner Franklin agrees and feels there is
too much structure. The Commission will schedule a work
session to form a use policy after gathering data on
current park use and finding out if there are school
facilities available that we can utilize.

Will invite developer to next meeting so exact location
of trail can be clarified.
