I. ORGANIZATION A. RgLL__~A~L - Present: Gilman, Pierce, Saunders, Ward Absent: Clemens, Franklin, Swan Staff: Pisani, Rizzo, Tate, Trinidad B. MINUTES - Approval of Minutes - 1/8/90 Minutes were approved as submitted. Pierce/Saunders. Passed 4-0. C. POSTING OF THE AGENDA Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda for this meeting was properly posted on January 31, 1990. II. OLD BUSINESS None III. NEW BUSINESS A. Chairman Ward introduced Wendy Hendry who is the coordinator for the GATE program in the Saratoga school district. She presented sixth grade student teams from the Saratoga school GATE program who gave presentations to the Commissioners on their versions of the ideal park from financial, safety and design aspects. B. Commissioner Gilman gave a presentation to her fellow commissioners on the Park Appreciation Program. Her ideas included designating a special week or a play- day at the Park, publicity needed, sending notices to the local schools, age groups to appeal to, different activities in the parks and needing a three-year projection. The Commissioners and staff supported her ideas, and Commissioner Pierce added that biking fron~ park to park would prove to familiarize residents with the parks. It was motioned that Commissioner Gilman and staff members Pisani and Rizzo would meet at a later date to commence preparation of the program. COMMISSION AND STAFF REPORTS A. Staff members Trinidad and Rizzo briefly discussed the upcoming cleanup of Azule Park. The Greenbriar Homeowners Association is donating up to$1000 toward this cause and 17 members of the California Conservation Corps will take two days to complete the task. The City wi].l then be able to keep up with maintenance. B. Joan Pisani described the background of the historical Warner Hutton House and future plans for its use, which include recreational classes for tiny tots, cooking classes, meetings and lectures, office space for a staff member, and a gathering place for the Youth Commission. The Commission members supported and encouraged Joan's plans, as recreational activities easily carry themselves and bring in revenue for the City. C. Staff members Trinidad and Rizzo briefly updated the Commissioners on the status of the skateboard ramp and presented a set of rules and regulations. COMMUNICATIONS A. The Open Space Needs Assessment Survey draft sent to the Commissioners has since then been upated and shortened, as reported by Commissioner Pierce.
