II.B. Skateboard Location Report/Rollerblade Plan/Youth Proposal
Maintenance Director Trinidad gave a brief overview on the skate-
board report. Existing/proposed parking stalls would have to be
eliminated at the Civic Center to accommodate the park as
designed. Parking would be a problem when other activities were
in progress at the Civic Center (e.g. weddings, theatre
productions, etc. Also, relocating utility lines underground
could be costly.
Janet Chu of the Youth Commission was present to propose that
a rollerblade facility be constructed instead of the
previously proposed skateboard bowl because of its attraction of
a broader field of participants, including adults. She presented
a 90 signature petition from Saratoga youth, both sexes.
Trinidad introduced the City Engineer's draft plans for a
rollerblade facility. Commissioners exchanged ideas, with
Commissioner Pierce suggesting removable basketball poles for use
when rollerbladers were not present.
Pierce/Miller motioned that the concept for a skateboard facility
be abandoned and that a careful study by the City Engineer be
conducted to create an in-line rollerblading facility behind the
Community/Senior Center with multi-use trails, complimented by
an interchangeable basketball court. 5/0.
