I. ORGANIZATION A. ROLL CALL Present: Crotty, Olsen, Swan, Whitney Late: Blomquist, Clabeaux Absent: Weiner Staff: Reeve, Pisani B. MINUTES Minutes of the June 2, 1997 meeting were approved as submitted. Swan/Olsen 4/0 C. POSTING OF THE AGENDA Staff, Joan Pisani, reported that pursuant to Govenunent Code 54954.2 the agenda for this meeting was posted on the City Hall Kiosk on July 17, 1997. II. OLD BUSINESS The Commissioners and Staff discussed the revised Park Development Fund Priority List. Public testimony regarding the recommendations is expected at the Joint Meeting, particularly the Saratoga High School Pool Project. Staff, Joan Pisani, presented the group with a copy of a letter dated July 15, 1997, notifying Task Force Participants of the Joint Meeting and requesting their attendance to support the Park and Recreation Commission's project funding recommendations to City Council. Public testimony: Carolyn Drozdiak, 19353 Melinda Circle, Saratoga, CA, acknowledged the Commission's project priority list had been revised. Ms. Drozdiak discussed the need for maintenance agreements with the schools suggesting that an agreement currently utilized by school districts in other cities could be amended for Saratoga. , t:~,¸ III. NEW BUSINESS A discussion took place regarding the feasibility of funding the Saratoga High School Pool proposal from the Park Development Fund. IV. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION A) Commissioner Whimey introduced a letter from Tamara Jards (or, Jacobs) re Kevin Moran Park, which expressed concerns about the presence of standing water/puddle on the ground and the destruction/loss of fruit trees. Staff will direct the Parks Crew to investigate the apparent leak. The Commissioners acknowledged that the orchard is periodically maintained and some of the trees are dying from age. V. COMMISSION AND STAFF REPORTS A) Commissioner Reports Commissioner Crotty reported that she will be out of town on September 20th and a volunteer is needed to fill her position as site coordinator for the Coastal Cleanup Day. The Water District may provide a volunteer. B) Recreation Department Status Report Staff, Joan Pisani, reported on Summer Recreation Department Programs. C) p~k Maintenance Report A discussion took place regarding the following topics: Public demand for the parks versus revenue received; restrooms running out of supplies and excess garbage resulting from heavy use; necessity for more frequent clean-up by Parks Departmere personnel; Sheriffs Department security checks triggered by reports of alcohol, drugs and gambling. The Sheriffs Department has been informed of the problems that exist at Wildwood and E1 Quito Park and has been instructed to continue security checks at these locations.
