Action Minutes
I. Call to Order
Meeting called to order at 7:34 p.m.
II. Roll Call
Commissioners Present: Cross, Gipstein, Manzo, O'Donnell, Towse
Commissioners Excused: Foscato
III. Report on Posting of the Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, thc agenda was properly posted on 10/12/99.
IV. Approval of Minutes of September 22, 1999
Commissioner Cross moved to approve the minutes of September 22, 1999. Commissioner Towse
seconded the motion and it passed (5/0).
V. Old Business
a. Commission Vacancy Status
Bobby Chondra was appointed to Commission effective November 1, 1999.
b. Library Awareness Week Oct. 10-16 Wrap-Up Goals met. Attendance at events adequate.
c. Friends of the Saratoga Libraries Awareness Program Update · Two separate mass mailers (7,000 each).
· 300 one on one interviews to date.
· Saratoga News Insert ( Circulation 8000).
· One extra direct mass mailer (1600).
· Mailer to Civic Leaders (325).
· All City Mailer pending.
· Cost expected to be approximately $50,000.
d. Speaker's Bureau Update See attached.
VI. New Business
a. Joint City Council Meetings
Library Chair Manzo and Bill McDonnell, FSL, to make a presentation to City Council on
October 22, 1999.
Tentative dates for Joint City Council Meetings - November 17 and 22, 1999.
b. Needs Assessment Update
Tentative dates for working sessions - November 10 and 11, 1999.
VII. Reports
a. Julie Farnsworth, Deputy County Librarian · CAC met - Reviewed Y2K plan.
· JPA meets October 28, 1999.

b. Dolly Barnes, Community Librarian No report.
c. Marcia Manzo, Library Commission Chair and Library 2000
· Saratoga News will be presented with an award from California Association of Library
Trustees and Commissions in Southern Califomia on November 12, 1999.
d. Lori Burns, City Staff Representative
Paula Reeve will be the new City Staff Representative effective November 1, 1999.
e. Jim Givens, Friends of the Saratoga Libraries · Paperback sale set new record for proceeds.
· Auction was a success.
· One on One interviews taking scheduled for November 6, 1999, from 9:00am - 3:00pm.

Commissioner Foscato made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Commissioner Cross seconded
the motion. The motion carded and the meeting was adjourned at 9:35 p.m. (6/0).
