Commissioner Held abstained from voting on the minutes since he was
not present at the April meeting. The reading of the minutes was
then waived and the minutes approved unanimously.
I. RESPONSES TO COUNTY INVENTORY NOMINATIONLETTERS
Staff briefly went over the responses received in the mail to the
letter sent out by the Commission requesting property owners to allow
their property to be listed as historic resources on the County In-
ventory. A Mrs. Henden indicated in her response that she was con-
fused about the address given for the historic building. Mrs. Gaspar
offered to investigate this situation for the Commission. Commissioner
Landsness was given the responsibility for completing the application
for those property owners who responded positively to the Commission's
letter. The non-response applications are to be kept on file by staff.
Mrs. Gaspar volunteered to provide a description and photograph of her
house which was nominated for inclusion in the County Inventory.
Commissioner Heid indicated he would check out No. 57 on the City's
inventory to get a correct address. The Commission thanked Mrs.
Gaspar for her work in listing the owner's of record for the properties
listed in the City Inventory.
II. GOAL COMPLETION CALENDAR
Chairman Mc Arthur distributed a goals and objective format for the
Commission to use in listing those goals the Commission would try to
achieve within a given period of time. The basic purposes of the
Heritage Preservation Ordinance were used as the major goal categories.
The goals decided on by the Commission are shown in the goals and ob-
jectives sheets attached to these minutes.

III. DISCUSSION OF HERITAGE RESOURCE CLEARING HOUSE
Commissioner Landsness stated she had checked with one of the re-
ference librarians at the Saratoga Cor~c~unity Library about setting
up a clearing house for historic preservation reference materials
in a portion of the library in memory of Rob Robinson. The library
indicated that this was a good idea. Co~m~issioner Landsness also
offered to contact Mary Ann Cook and some other cities to determine
what sort of materials are available and how to get them.
IV. REPORT ON SACRAMENTO HERITAGE MEETING
Chairman Mc Arthur summarized the meeting in Sacramento that she
and Commissioner Landsness attended.~ She stated that 10% of the
federal funds that the state receives from the new jobs bill (about
$50,000) will be distributed to local government. The same amount
would probably be available next year. However, a City's Heritage
Preservation Commission must meet certain minimum qualifications
before the City can receive some of these funds. The existing Heritage
Preservation Ordinance must be modified to reflect these qualifications
if it is to be certified.
It was indicated that the money is to be spent towards education and
not individual restoration grants. Thus, this money could be used to
fund inventory surveys. The greater the number of contributing structures
the better for the City to compete for these funds.
The Commission directed staff to inform the City Council of the quali-
fications that are required of Co~m~issioners for the City to be certi-
fied. Staff indicated that a report would be written to the City
Council prior to their selection of the new commissioners.
The Commission then discussed the letter from the Saratoga-Los Gatos
Board of Realtors requesting Commission suggestions for a residence
built around 1908 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Board.
Commissioner Heid indicated he would check with Melitta Oden on this
and Chairman Mc Arthur indicated she would try to work with the news-
paper.
The Commission asked staff to contact Connie Finster on the status
of the City's ordinance in the certification process. Commissioner
Heid suggested that the property owners of the sites listed in the
City's Heritage Inventory be invited to a presentation, given by the
Commission, in the Community Library perhaps sometime in September.
The purpose of the meeting would be to try to get these people inter-
ested in the activities of the Commission and the Heritage Preservation
process.
The next meeting was set for June 15th at which time the Commission
decided it would discuss the completion timetable for the goals al-
ready listed.
