NEW BUSINESS A. Discussion of 198B House Tour with the California History Center The Commission met with the California History Center' <phone 996-4.712). Chairperson Landsmess stated that there has been commitment for' three homes on the house tour, the Woodrow Lomas homo, Villa Danders and the Willys Peck home. The walking tour planned will include the Saratoga Library, the ~alt on Saratoga-Los 6ate5 Rd., the Historical Par~:, Oak St., Madrerio Cemetery, 6th Street, and through the Village. 6t the Madrerio Cemetery, a docent tour will be given of the Horticul~;L~ral Preserve by Berrie Costa. Chairperson Landshess commented that a letter from the Mayor welcoming people to the tour could be included in the program. 8n advertisement for the %our will have to be in to Sunset Magazine by the 2gth, Laura Finnegan of the magazine should be advised ahead of time to let her know it ia tomins, Commissioner Kvamme is to contact the owner~ of Uilla Oeodore to receive per'mia5iorl to use the drawing of %he home in the advertisement. Commissioner Bietinski volunteered to allow her P.O. Box to be used for' the tickets and will provide the number later. The scheduling for the oven% was discussed. Since %he even% is 8pril 20th, the request5 for tickets need to be into the center by 6pril t. Commissioner' Bietinski sta~ed that the invitations should be into the mailing house by March S, and would mean that the printer5 need the information by Feb, ]7, She mentioned that a time line should be set for %he preparation of the program. Heritage Preservation Minutes, t-2£-$G Chairperson Landsne~s is working on the program and stated the layout is done except for the drawing of Villa Oecdera and the Peck home. Commissioner Held stated that the Peck. home is an example of a craftsman house. 8omMzssioner Voester stated she will be writing up the history for the buildings on the tour. Chairperson LandsheSS and Commissioner Voester will work on putting together the program. The program is to indicate in front that the house tour J.s a self-guided walking tour. Discussion followed on parking for the tour. There was concensus that parking areas should be indicated on the map to be included in the program and on the tick. et~. There was agreement that some tickets should be ~old "at the door". These tickets will be sold for $1S.00 and tickets sold through the Mail will be sold for $12.00. Chairperson LendsheSS is to contac't the Chamber of Commerce to check. %hat the tickets May be 5old there on the day of the tour. There was also concensus that people on the tour should be encouraged to not start at one spot. Everyone agreed that only 1,700 tickets should be printed. Commissioner Bielinaki is to contact the Board for Madronle Cemetery to see if they would like to become involved in the tour, Commissioner goestar suggested that a Map of the ceme%ar'y may be included in the program so that interesting tombstones May be easzly identified. Commissioner Held asked if the City had any problems with the tour. Commissioner Cameron is to contact the City Attorney and the City Manager %o ask if there is e problem with liability and if there is adequate insurance coverage. Janet with the California History Center will work. with Commissioner Cameron on the liability problem, and suggested that the City and the Foothill Oeanza College District may be able to work the insurance problem out together, Oq refreshments, Commissioner Koepernik volunteered to make arrangements for the wine. Villa Benders will be the location where th~ refreshments will be ~erved. Some discussion followed on how the restaurants in the Village may become involved in the tour, Those restaurants that contribute money or food will be listed in the program or on the tickets. Commissioner Koepernik i~ to contact the restaurants. It was decided that the women detents are to wear long dresses again this year. Commissioner' Kvamme and Bielinski ~re to work on the refreshments, They will visit Willa Danders to see about the setup for the refreshments and will 'take a representative from the California History Center to determine the number of decants needed. It was noted that ~he owners of Villa Deedera have requested a guard be provided at the gate. Chairperson Land~ness requested that Commissioner Bielin~ki contact the Pecks and Commissioner Kvamme contact the Bregman~ to le~ them know she wilt be by to take picture~ of the homes. There wa~ concensus that another meeting should be ~et to continue discussion of the house tour. This meeting was ~et for Feb. 13, at 3:~0 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. Prior' to the meeting the following information is to have been obtained: the best setup for the refreshments, liability insurance information, tethers to volunteers are to be sent out, and the Madrehis Cemetery Board is to be contacted, HeritaQe Preserwtion Minutes, 1-22-8S IN).
