I. The beating was called to order at 3:15 P.M. by Chair
LandsheSS

Minutes are to be amended by adding ~4, Pg. 3 unOer "miscellaneous reports
and discussion as follows:
~4. Commissioner Held presented draft resolutions of appreciation to the
Lomas, Pecks & 8ragmarts. The Commission made some minor modification~ and
dzrected staff to make the revisions and return copies of the resolutions
to the Commission for review. These resolutions would be presented to the
residents at a future City Council meeting.
Page 3, 8-2 "Montevista" should be spelled "Monte Vista."
M/S HEID/VOESTER to approve minutes as amended. Carried 5-8.
The Commission decided to discuss the miscellaneous agenda items A-F until
4:00; then continue with old business, "review of inventory beginning
with ~3t."

A. Results of House Tour. Chair Landsnasa reported a $488 profit.
An itemization will be following.
B. Status of Fire Bell. Staff Planner Caldwell reported that the
City Attorney is working on ~he agreement between the Fire Dept.
and City regardiog costs which is required prior to designation.
Commissioner Voester expressed concern that the Fire Dept.
volunteers will think the City has Iost interest. The Commission

urged the City Rt%orney to "keep moving."
C. Sign for Central Park Orchard. Chair Landsnasa stated that the
sign is being mede for the City Hell and the Orchard. It is hand
carved by a meticulous carver, per Roy Swanson, Parks Supervisor.
D. California History Center Report. Commissioner Uoester requested
that the Heritage Preservation Commission should review copies of
the individual evaluations from the house tour which is on file
with the California History Center. Chair LandsheSS will get
copies.
E. Budget. Staff presented copies of the approved budget (Exhibit 6,
attached). The Commission approved the purchase of ~opies of
Secatoqe,m First Hundred Years. Commissioner Heid will bring
them to the next meeting.
F. Discussion of Proriva project, Oak Place. The Commission
discussed the proposed developmen~ of Oak Place, expressing
concern that the structures not be oversized. It was M/S
VOESTER/KOEPERNIK to express the Historic Preservation
Oommission's support to the Planning Oommission in the design
review process, that the Planners "not allow an oversized
structure and use good judgement regarding the percentage of lot
coverage. The design should be sensitive to the older historic
character of the neighborhood, circa 1928, 1930~ 1940 era."
F-2. Commissioner Koepernik informed the Commission that he would not
be attending the Main Street Program, Sept. 3-5 in Winston-Salem.
F-3. The Commission will review Resolutions o? 8ppreciation for Mr. &
Mrs. Lomas, Bragman and Peck at the next meeting,
II. OLD BUSINESS, The Commissioners reviewed the Heritage Preservation
Commission Inventory beginning with %31 end made comments as follows:
Numbers refer to numerical order in Survey Book.
~31 - One of Mr. Jerb0~s home~ Remodeled over the years to a larger
structure. Henry Jarbo~was one of the original founOers of Madronia
Cemetery 8secoteflon.
%32 - F. 8. Willard House. '1~q& Willerd~ main residence. Executive of
the "City of Paris." ~rchitectural style - California Craftsman (1890-
1~20). No known Major changes made to original building.
%33 - Remove "secluded ..... Neale's Hollow" remove "resort cot%age

proposed." Insert California Craftsman. "One of the larqest coast
live oaks." Owner: John R, Kahle. Typifies Julia Morgan
architecture and remains as originally designed. Secluded on a knoll
above Saratoga Creek.

~34 - Moved to 14S~0 Big Basin Way in t983, APN S17-09-071.
Originally located at 20688 Marion Road, Dismantled in 1983 and
relocated to its present site by Zambettis. Unfortunately, the only
remaining~/stFufture is the front and side elevations.
~35 - Skip for nou.
~36 - Remove "resort cottage period," Carmichael owned and operated a
lumber mill above Saratoga. (Commissioner Voester will report more
later>.
~37 - Should be inserted as ~2 in Survey. (State Historical
Landmark is ~1 >. This reflects information from County Inventory
Book. Remove "resort period." Plaque given to City and attached to
the Memorial Arch by California Centennial Commission. Architect -
Robert Bruce Porter.
~38 - Architect - Charles Boosinger. The original entrance was
widened to include store front windows. Used as Red Cros~ and Civil
Defense headquarters during World War II. ~lso used an antique s~ore
and church. "Congregation" spelled wrong in the 2nd line.
CoMmissioner Held will bring sample5 of architectural style5 to use in
labelling the Inventory at the next meeting.
