B. Approval of Minutes of 2--4--87 Passed unanimously
Staff noted that agenda had been posted at the
council chambers on 8-13-87.

A. Heritage Resource Inventory
There was general discussion on wr.lting the physical
description of resources.
Commissioners discussed research done on the resource
inventory and will continue working on their
assignments.

B. Voester gave a brief background on the applicatior~.
The year of construction will r'ead c.19('~0 and clarify'
that the marker was built in 1962.

approval of the designatic, n of the Saratoc~a Volur;tee',"
Fire Belt as a heritage resource, based on the
following findings:
1) '[he Saratoga Volunteer Fire Bell reflects a special
element of the cultural, social, political and
engineering history of the City.,
F2) ]"he Fire Bell is identified with per?..ons and ~- ..... ~t=.
significant in local and county history; ar, d
3) The Fire Bell is a visual feature that c;ontribut~.','.,s'
to an established historic area of the City.
Motion passed unanimously
B. HP-13 Missic, nary Settlement House.
B. Voester gave brief background on the applicat~.on~.
The commission discussed the importance c,f the
structure to the Village area.
M/S Cameron /Voester to recommend to the City Council
approval of the designation of the Missionary
Settlement House as a heritage resource based on the
fc, llowing findings:
1) The Settlement House exemplifies special eleme~-,ts
of the cultural, social, economic and architectural
history of the City.
2) Thae Settlement House embodies distinctive
characteristics of the Queen Anne [;ottaqe architec:tu;~'al
style; and
3) The Settlement House is a structure which
contributes to the unique physical characteristics
representing the established Village area.
Motion passed unanimously

A. Bed and Breakfast Ordinance
General discussion on the concern that some communit'f
members do not fully under'stand the ir, tentions o'f' bhe
commission.
Village Map - revision of boundaries
V. Young stated that she 'found the cor'rec'.:'b map and that
the commission should adjust their map accordingly.,
V 'Young stated that she will be posting notices
regarding the upc:oming Council hearing.
General discussion on public hearing March 4,1987.
L. Artshes will finalize a statement for City Cour, c:~l
to be included in their packet.
B. General discussion or, Saratoga School.
M/S Voester/Ansnes to write a letter tr, Chairmar, of
Board of' Trustees.- Saratoga Union School Dis'brict~ in
support of saving Saratoga School as a school.
The school should be preserved for tlne follow:inc}
reasons:
1) it is architecturally sig'nificant
2) educational advantage for children - the building
is "living history"
3) has been made earthquake safe wi'thc, ut destroying
it'~s Architectural Integrity.
4) contributes to the flavor of the community
5) is over 50 years old
Motion passed unanimously
