B. Approual of Minutes of 7-22-87
CoMmissioner Uoester noted two corrections. On Page 1=
regarding the LJarner Hutton House, she noted that
prune and apricot trees would be More appropriate than
almond. On Page 2 regarding the tnuentory. she asked
that the wording be changed to reflect that the forms
were not "coMpleted" but "reuiewed."
U/S Uoester/Landsness to approue Minutes as corrected.
Passed unanimously.
C. Posting of Agenda
Staff noted the agenda was posted at Citv Hall on
Friday, July 31, 1987.
O. Oral and Ur/tten ComMunications
ComMissioner' Landshess noted that she had receiued a
phone call fro~ Dauid Pines regarding the Uarsh-Uetzger
house.
CoMmissioner Heid noted that the CoMMission had all
receiued inuitations to the recognition dinner in
SepteMber. He asked for input on the write-up
regarding the CoMeisston's actiuities he was asked to
do.

II. HEU BUSIHESS
Constitution Bicentennial Celebration
The Coe~isston discussed possible ways the City could
participate in the celebration. There was consensus
that the Commission recommend to the City Council that
the City participate b9 applying for designation as a
Bicentennial Coe~unit~, issue a proclamation
recognizing the celebration. participate in the bell-
ringing by ringing the Saratoga Uolunteer Fire Bell at
the indicated time and encouraging churches with bells
to ring them also, and by encouraging local Cable TU
couerage of the event. The Commission sill be able to
assist in the organization of the events. Staff will
draft a memo to the Council.
III. OLD BUSINESS
R, Heritage Resource Plaques
Commissioners Landsness and Uoester briefed the
Commission on their work. Properties can be divided
into three categories: 1) Foothill Club and Uilia
Montaluo - cultural facilities; 2) Three residences; 3)
Cit9 properties and fireball. It was decided that a
letter aould be sent to the recipients. then the
presentations would be scheduled and photographs taken.
InforMation on the entire progra~ would then be given
to the press after the presentations were completed.
Staff will draft a letter to the recipients for Chair
Heid's signature.
Marsh-Metzger House
ComMissioners Landsness and Uoester reported on the
action taken at the Planning Co~mission Meeting on July
22. U. Young noted that the Planning CoMmission had
reviewed revised elevations for the structures at a
Coe~ittee-of-the-Uhole Meeting on Bugust q; she showed
the Heritage Commission the latest revisions.
Chair Held noted the Commission had already made its
recommendation to the Planning Coew~ission and
encouraged Commissioners to attend the next Planning
Co~mission Nearing when the application would be heard
<Rugust 2G>.

The CoMmission discussed the recent sale status of the
ainer~, noting its historic ualue to Saratoga. U.
Young noted that Planning Staff was preparing an
informational memo on the property, and ~ould keep the
£ommission briefed on the issues.
8. MeMbership in Saratoga Historical foundation
ComMissioner Uoester urged all Heritage £o~Mi~sioners
to become members of the foundation.
B. Uoester stated that she had recentl~ been to Pacific
Groue and noted that properties that had been fixed up
or aell Maintained aere identified by aooden plaques.
Staff aill obtain information on the program.

The £oMMiasion decided to Meet for an extra hour at the
next meeting to work on the inuentorv. Staff to check if
library Meeting room is auailable at 2:00 p.m.
