HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
DATE: Wednesday, September 20, 1989 3:00 p.m.

A. Roll Call
Present: Ansnes, Koepernik, Cameron, Peck. Mitchell
Absent: Davis, (Landshess resigned effective 9/19/89)
Staff: V. Young, J. Walgren
B. Approval of Minutes of 9/6/89
M/$ Cameron/Peck to approve the minutes of 9,/6,/89 as submitted.
Motion passed unanimously.
O. Posting of Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was posted al::
City Hall on 9/15/89.
D. 0ral and Written Communications
Secretary Young reported on the following six items:
Santa Clara County Heritage Network - Fall meeting wJ, L2 be
held this Friday, September 22; two Commissioners and one
staff member are ,signed up to go, Flyers on the Saratoga
Heritage Bike Rally will be distributed.
2) CLG update - paperwork on the project scope and legal
agreement has been received. Planning Director Emslie will
assist the Commission with this project after Young leaves.
A copy of the signed agreement will be included in next
agenda packet.
3) Letter from Marti Bennett - Bennett is requesting a letter'
of support from the Heritage Commission for :he National
Register nomination of John Steinbeck House, Greenwood
Lane, in Monte Sereno. She will be making a similar
request to the City Council at their oral communications on
tonight's agenda. There was commission consensus to
agendize this for next meeting for action, and to have
staff convey to the Council this evening the Commissions's
support of the nomination.
4) Secretary Young's resignation- Young referred to the memo
she had sent to all the Commissioners regarding her
resignation from the City of Saratoga. Her last day will
be September 29~ 1989, so this will be her last Commission
Meeting. She stated that the Commission could continue to
meet at the Warner Hutton House if they wished, and that
Assistant Planner James Walgren will take over the duties
of staffing the Commission, with assistance from Planning
Director Emslie.
5} Resignation of Sharon Landsness - Young reported that
Commissioner Landsness had given her official resignation
on Tuesday, September t9. Council will discuss her
replacement appointment at its October 4 meeting.
6) Several Commissioners reported receiving correspondence
from a Virginia Tech. University graduate student working
on her doctorate regarding heritage preservation in
Saratoga. It was agreed that the commission should respond
as a group, and not individually, to her request.
Ii. 01d Business
A. Recap of Heritage Bike Ride
Young reported that the bike rally was cancelled because of
the rainstorm, and rescheduled for Sunday, October 8. There
were 70 people pre-registered for the event: Recreation staff
will do outreach to all of those people and others to generate
more interest.
B. Preview Inventory Forms
The Commission finished their review of forms #A21 arid # A22.
There was discussion on the ordinance requirement that
designated resources record the designation on their title
deed with the County Recorder's Office.
IiI. Items Initiated b_y the Commission
Commissioner Peck invited the Commission to hold their next
meeting at his house, since his train is set up. There was
agreement to this by the Commission.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m, Champagne and cider were
enjoyed by all, to bid farewell to Secretary Young.
