I. Routine Orqantsation
A. Roll Call
Present: Ansnes, Benzing, Cameron, Davis, Koepernick, Peck
Mitchell
Absent: none
Staff: Emslie, Walgren
B. Approval of Minutes of 12/6/89
M/S Davis/Cameron to approve the minutes of 12/6/89 with one
minor correction. Motion passed unanimously.
C. Posting of Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was posted at
City Hall on 1/12/90.
D. Oral and Written Communications
Planning Director Steve Emslie was in attendance and was
welcomed by the commission. Emslie discussed the upcoming
joint meeting with the City Council and the Heritage Preser-
vation Commission scheduled for Tuesday, January 9th. Agenda
items for the meeting were decided to be:
1. Future Use of the Warner Hutton House
2. Additional Funds for Publication of the Heritage Resource
Book
Staff relayed to the commission that a letter had been sent
to Northwestern Arizona University requesting curriculum
information regarding their pilot heritage education program.
Following staff's conveying difficulty if finding someone to
bind the Santa Clara County History book to the commission,
commissioner Peck recommended "Bookbinders" on Farwell Ave-
nue. Bookbinders is a longstanding service provided by Mrs.
Swanson.
Peck mentioned that Jack Mallory was organizing a farewell
celebration for the Paul Masson champagne cellars located on
Saratoga Avenue. Mallory was the organizer for the Cele-
brate!Saratoga festival. Emslie discussed the future plans
for the Paul Masson site as partially residential townhomes
and partially a senior care facility.
II. Old Business
&. "American Bungalow" Newsletter Mission Statement
Davis requested that staff send copies of the "American
Bungalow" newsletter to owners of bungalow homes to inform
them of this publication. The commissioners felt that this
would also be a good way to remind homeowners of the commis-
sion's function.
B. Heritage Council of Santa Clara County Directory
This item was accepted by the commission. Ansnes requested
that staff check to see if there was a copy of the recently
received Heritage Council of Santa Clara County directory at
the Saratoga Community Library.
C. Certified Local Government Training Seminar
Staff discussed the upcoming Certified Local Government
training seminar held on January 26th in San Jose at the San
Jose Convention Center. Commissioners in CLG cities are
required to attend at least one type of educational seminar
per year regarding historic preservation. Cameron, Benzing,
Peck, and Koepernick agreed to participate with staff in this
seminar.
III.Xtems Initiated by the Commission
The commission agreed to devote the next meeting to updating
the City's Heritage Resource Inventory list.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
