HERIT&GE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES

I. ROUTINE ORGANIZATION
A. Roll Call
Present: &nsnes, Davis,Fine, Koepernik, Peck, Peepari

B. Approval of Minutes of 4/13/93
The minutes were approved as submitted. M/S Davis/Peepari
C. Posting the Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 546954.2, the agenda was posted at city
Hall on Friday, May 7.
D. Oral and Written Communications
1. Commissioner Ansnes reported that the proposed book release
party would have to be rescheduled for later in the summer.
2. It was decided to wait until the end of summer to elect a new
chairmen.
3. The Commission directed staff to send a letter to the City
Council and the Planning Commission requesting payment for the
Heritage Inventory Books already received. M/S Peepari/Fine
II. OLD BUSINESS
1. Heritage Preservation Incentive Program (Continued from
April 13).
The Commission discussed a variety of possible incentives
including:
- Making the Heritage Inventory Book available at local
bookstores, museum, historical societies and special
events.
- Completing a brochure that explains the function and purpose
of the Commission.
- Erecting signs on the Heritage Lane that explains the
history and purpose of the designation.
- Developing walking tour maps of the Heritage Lane.
- Sponsoring lectures or symposiums on local heritage
subjects.
- Developing education programs for local schools.
- Producing a video of designated landmarks.
- Send letter and survey sheets to property owners on the
inventory.
Staff indicated that the brochure could be produced by the City
staff and would look into this and report back to the Commission.
2. Heritage Inventory Book - Response to letter from
Commissioner Larry Fine (Continued from April 13).
The letter from Commissioner Fine was discussed and it was resolved
to ask the City Finance Director to attend the HPC meeting in
August to discus further the financing of the Heritage Inventory

3. Review and discussion of revised Heritage Inventory
notification letter (Continued from April 13).
The letter and brochure language were approved with minor
modifications. A final draft of the text will be presented by
Commissioner Davis to staff at a later date.
4. Discussion of the arrangements for the annual California
Preservation Conference to be held in Long Beach on June 3, 4,
and 5, 1993.
Staff indicated that the funds for the attending the conference had
been approved by the City Council. The three Commissioners
attending the conference will be Keopernik, Fine and Davis.
Secretary White indicated that he would firm up the travel
itinerary with the each of the individuals.

The meeting was adjourned to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8.
