ROUTINE ORGANIZATION A. Roll Call Present: Ansnes, Davis, Dutro, Fine, Peck, Peepari Absent: Koepernik Staff: Secretary White Guests: Mr. Bean, Mr. Bzewczyk, Mr. Holt B. Approval of Minutes of 6/14/94 The minutes were approved as submitted, M/S Fine/Peck C. Posting the Agenda Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, the agenda was posted at City Hall on Friday, July 1. D. Oral and Written Communications Mr. Holt was present to discuss a possible addition and remodel to his Heritage Inventory home, the Van Aredale House. The Commission generally supported his plan and offered the following suggestions: 1. Duplicate trim of existing house. 2. Duplicate architectural details such as window frames and turned wood detailing. 3. Match roof shingles on new addition and new garage. 4. Match siding - re-mill existing redwood if possible. 5. Use same siding on new garage as on main house. Staff indicated that these plans had not yet been reviewed by the Planning Department for compliance with the Zoning Ordinance and that if Planning Commission approval was needed that this project may be reviewed again by the Heritage Commission. II. OLD BUSINESS 1. Heritage Lane Signs - Continued from 6/14/94. Commissioner Kcepernik was absent but had discussed the sign project with staff by telephone. He indicated that the construction of the signs would commence very soon. 2. Heritage Lane Inventory Reports - Continued from 6/14/94. No reports on possible Heritage Lane candidates were offered and the item was continued to the Xugust meeting. ,f,% 3. Resource Inventory Video - Continued from 6/14/94. A st~bcommittee was foEzed consisting of Commissioners insnee and Duffs with commissioner Peck as editorial support to develop a detailed draft of the video pro}sot. A general target date for completion of the proposal was set for October-November 1994. III. NEW BUSINESS 1. Vidanage, Tract 8639, 12585 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Review of a proposed new street name. After discussion, the proposed street name of ,,Spring Moon Court,, wasunanimously rejected, H/S Fine/burro. The Commission reiterated its mandate from the City Council to approve street names which reflected the heritage of Saratoga. The Commission felt that the proposed name was not compatible with Saratoga in general and was inconsistent with street names in the specific area. It was suggested that it would be more appropriate for a name to contain a reference to the history of the nurser7 site or to the view of the Saratoga hillsides. Staff was advised to urge the applicant to submit a new name or choose a name from the Heritage Commission developed list. 2. SD-94-001, Bean, 14024 Saratoga Avenue. Review of wall plans and a proposed new street name. After review of site plans and elevations, the Commission unanimously approved the wall, its materials and the proposed landscaping, M/S Fine/Peepari. In consideration of the proposed new street name, "Heritage Oak", the Commission was in unanimous support, M/S Fine/Peck. Staff indicated that the appropriateprocess would be initiated to advise outside agencies of the proposed new street name. 3. Report on a Meeting with the State Historic Preservation Office. Commissioners Davis and Peck recounted their meeting with members of the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). They indicated that the original documentation for the State Landmark Designation for Saratoga would be sent to staff. They also indicated that grant money was available through SHPO for projects like the video inventory and for conference attendance. & handout from SHPO describing new CEQA legislation relating to historic resources was distributed.
