HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
Date: Tuesday, April 8, 1997, 9 a.m.*
Place: Wamer Hutton House, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue
Type: Regular Meeting
*NOTE: Glenda Garcia has requested that the Heritage Commission meet at 14118 Saratoga Avenue prior to
the regular meeting to view and discuss a proposed location for a fence adjacent to the Heritage Lane that
exceeds three feet in height. Please meet at the site and we will reconvene at the Warner Hutton House
immediately following.
Commissioners Dutro, King, Peck, Peepari, Wyman and Secretary White met Glenda Garcia at the site.
The location of the proposed fence was identif'~,d by a temporary cyclone fence.
The Commission was advised of the desired setback, height and materials for the fence.

B. Approval of minutes dated 3/11197.
The minutes were approved as submitted, 6-0, M/S Dutro/Peck.
C. Posting of the Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code Section 94954.2, the agenda was posted on Friday, April 4.
D. Written Communications

E. Oral Communications (This portion of the meeting is reserved for those persons desiring to
address the Commission on any matter not on the agenda)

I]. Old Business
A. Garcia, 14118 Saratoga Avenue, Proposal for a fence adjacent to a Heritage Lane in excess of
three feet in height.
After discussion, the Commission considered the following motion:
1. The proposed 6 foot fence may be located no closer than 30 feet from the public right of way on
Saratoga Avenue. Staff will require the applicant to provide an accurate site plan showing the
actual location of the fence.
2. The fence shall be of substantial solid wood construction and be designed to appear similar to
the fence on Fruitvale Avenue directly across the street from City Hall. No lattice is allowed.
3. Additional shrubs shall be planted, with appropriate irrigation, 6 feet on center along the street
side face of the fence that will grow to a height of 6 feet in two years. Planting shall be installed by
the developer at the time of construction.
The motion passed unanimously, MIS PeeparilDutro.
III. New Business
A. SD-95-010, NAVICO, Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Review of new street name.
The street name was unanimously approved, M/S Peepad/Koepemik.
B. SD-95-007, Kennedy, Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Review of new street name.
The street name was unanimously approved, M/S Dutro/Peepari.
C. AR-97-007, Peck, 14275 Saratoga Avenue
Modification of a Structure on the Heritage Resource Inventory, CEQA Compliance
The Commission reviewed the development plans and declared the project exempt from CEQA per the
Staff recommendation. The Commission was expressed unanimous support for new addition.
