HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES

B. Approval of minutes from 6/10/97 Meeting

Thursday, July 3, 1997.

Ill. New Business
A. DR-97-034 ~ V-97-008, 14683 Oak Street, Lomas; Review of proposed
324 square foot addition to upper level of an existing 3,198 square foot ~vo-
level home that is on the Heritage Inventory.
The Commission reviewed the proposed addition and forwarded a positive
recommendation, 4-3-0, to the Planning Commission.
B. DR-97-036 a: UP-97-005, 20393 Park Place, Harkey; Review of a new two-
story single-family dwelling and detached garage on a historically significant site
(the second of three proposed homes; first home was reviewed on 6/i0/97.)
The Commission reviewed the proposed site plans and found the project to be
architecturally compatible. The Commission forwarded a positive
recommendation, 4-3-0, to the Hanning Commission with the following
suggested conditions:
I. The colors of the home shall be earth tone.
2. Final landscape plans and fencing plans for all three lots shall be
redewed and approved by the Commission prior to installation.
No fencing shall be installed on the north property line within the front
yard setback (adjacent to Foothill Club.)
C. DR-97-040, 20379 Park Place, Harkey; Review of a new two-story single-
family dwelling with an attached garage on a historically significant site (the
third of three proposed homes.)
The Commission reviewed the proposed site plans and found the project to be
architecturally compatible. The applicant indicated that the footprint of the
home will be relocated twenty feet further away from Park Place, the garage
will be closer to the alley, and that the floor plan will be changed. There was
some discussion about the proposed 3-foot high picket fence in the front yard,
with the general consensus being that the overall frontage of all three lots
should be as open as possible.
The Commission forwarded a positive recommendation, 4-3-0, to the Hanning
Commission with the following suggested conditions:
I. The colors of the home shall be earth tone.
2. Final landscape plans and fencing plans for all three lots shall be
reviewed and approved by the Commission prior to installation.
IV. Items Initiated by the Commission
Chairperson Wyman discussed the need to amend the Heritage Preservation Ordinance
to include Inventory sites needing the Commission's review prior to approval of
demolition projects, similar to the provision in the current Ordinance for Landmark
sites.
Chairperson Wyman indicated that she no longer needs m apply for funding from the
State Historic Preservation Office to fund a video of Saratoga's history; there are
enough private funds.
Commissioner Peepari reported on the L~rary Commktee's expansion plans; four
different firms will be interviewed for the project.
