HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-16-1968 City Council Minutes SARATOGA CITY COUNCIL SUMMARY OF MINUTES TIME: Tuesday, April 16, 1968 PLACE: Saratoga City Council Chambers, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue, Saratoga, California TYPE: Special Meeting I ORGANIZATION Mayor ~lennon called the meeting to order at 5:10 P. M. and announced that the special meeting had been called for the purpose of canvassing the vote of the April 9, 1968 General Municipal Election. A. ROLL CALL Present: Councilmen Glennon, Burry, Tyler, Hartman, Robbins Absent: None II CANVASS OF VOTES OF APRIL 9, 1968 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION A. RESOLUTION NO. 429 After review of the tally sheets and Resolution No. 429, it was moved by Councilman Hartman, seconded by Councilman Burry, and carried unanimously to adopt Resolution No. 429, being a resolution canvassing the vote of the April 9, 1968 General Municipal Election and resolving that Charles H. Robbins and Jerome A. Smith were elected to the City Council for the four ~ year terms ending April, 1972. The C{ty Clerk noted that absentee ballots had been tabulated and included within the analysisof votes ~cast as set forth in Resolution No. 429. B. OATH OF OFFICE FOR ELECTED MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL The Mayor administered the oath of office to the two duly elected Councilmen, ~ Charles H. Robbins and Jerome A. Smith, and the City Clerk then completed · ~' execution of the oaths of office and presented each with a certificate of election. C. ELECTION OF MAYOR AND MAYOR PRO TEMPORE Mayor Glennon resigned as Mayor, in accordance with the policy of the Saratoga City Council, and turned the gavel over to the City Clerk, James R. Huff. Mr. Huff called for nominations for Mayor and it was moved by Councilman Hartman, seconded by Councilman Robbins, and carried to nominate William E. Glennon as Mayor. Councilman Tyler moved, seconded by Councilman Smith, to close the nominations; motio~ carried with CouncilmanGlennon abstaining. Mr. Huff declared that, since no other nominations for Mayor had been submitted, William E. Glennon was. duly elected to the office of Mayor. Mayor Glennon resumed the Chair and called for nominations for Mayor Pro Tempore. It was moved by Councilman Tyler, seconded by CoUncilman Robbins, and carried to nominate Kenneth R. Hartmanas Mayor Pro Tempore and, there being no other nominations, the Mayor declared the nominations closed and declared a white ballot for Mayor Pro Tempore Hartman. III COUNCIL COMMITTEE STRUCTURE Mayor Glennon announced that Council Cormnittee structure and duties would be ~tudied in an effort to equalize the work load and, after brief discussion, indicated that he would be re-appointing Committees at the next regular meeting. IV ADJOURNMENT The Mayor acknowledged Councilman BurrOs retirement after four years of faithful service and expressed his appreciation for Mr. Burry's work on the City Council. There b~ing no further business, it was moved by Councilman Robbins, seconded by Councilman Hartman, and carried unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 5:30 P. M. -~..R. HUFF, CITY~CLERK
