I. ORGANIZATION ~

Present: Councilmen Smith, Bridges, Diridon and Kraus
Absent: Councilman Owyer ~
II. CANVASS OF VOTES
A. RESOLUTION NO. 685 - A ResolutiOn Canvassin~ the .Vote for City Council
Held March~ 5~ 1974 . ~
The City Manager presented a.br~f resume of Resolution No. 685. He
noted that the total numberlf ~a~lots ca'st ~a~. 3fO62,,wh~ch represented
19.6%of the total registered voters. The three councilmen elected were:

Johnz A. Brigham, Jr.
It was moved by Councilman Kraus and seconded by Councilman Bridges that
Resolution No. 685. be adopted. The motion was carried.
B. RESOLUTION NO. 686 A Resolutign CanVassing th~ Vote Relating to the
Fire Protection District Tax Increase Election
Held March. 5~ ~974
The City Manager gave a brief-reshme of Resolution No. 686, which relates
to the Saratoga Fire District tax'rate measure. He indicated there were
a total of 1,395 ballots cast, which represented 22.1% of the registered
voters in the five consolidated p~esincts. The ballot measure was affirmed
by a vote of 1,016 tQ 379. z
It was moved by Councilman Bridge~ and seconded bX Councilman Kraus that
Resolution No. 686 be adopted. Th~ motion was carried.
III. INSTALLATION OF ELECTED CANDIDATES
A. Administration of Oath of Office to New Councilmen
The City Manager administered the Oath of Office to the three newly-
elected councilmen.
B. Issuance of certificate of Election to New Councilmen
The ~ity Manager issued the Certi!ficates of Election to the newly-
elected councilmen.
IV. RE-ORGANIZATION OF CIT~ COUNCIL
A. Appointment of Mayor
Nominations for the office of Mayor were opened. Councilman Bridges
nominated Jerome A. Smith for the position of Mayor. Councilman Kraus
seconded the motion. ~here was no discussion, and the vote was 4 to 0
in favor of the appointment of Jerome A. Smith for Mayor.
The Mayor gave a brief acceptance speedh in which he indicated he
considered th~s to be a dual position of trust to the Council and to
the. community..
..... B. ~ppoi~tment of Vice-Mayor ........................
The nominations for the office of Vice Mayor were opened. Mayor Smith
nominated Councilman Bridges. Th~ motion was seconded by Councilman
Diridon. It was moved that there be a white ballot. Councilman Kraus
seconded the motion and the motion was carried, 4 to 0, for a white
ballot for the election of Councilman Bridge~ to the position of Vice
Mayor.
V. ADJOURNMENT ~
It was moved by Councilman Bridges and seconded ,by Councilman Kraus that
the.meeting be adjourned. The motionswas carried. The meeting was adjourned
at 7:15 P.M.
