ROLL CALL Present: Councilmembers Callon, Matteoni, Kraus Absent: Councilmember Corr II. iC~FIRMATION. OF CANVASS OF VOTES A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING CANVASS BY THE REGISTRAR OF VOTERS OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY OF SPECIAL ~NICIPAL ELECTION CONSOLIDATED WITH THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA SPECIAL l~th SENATE DISTRICT ELECTION AND GENEP~L MUNICIPAL ELECTION (City Counci! 4 year term) The City Manager distributed Exhibit "A" for attachment to this resolution, which is the official result of the canvass of election returns. M/S: Matteoni/Callon to adqpt Resolution 951, Confirming the .Canvass by the Registrar of,Voters for the 4-year term on ~the City Council. Carried unanim6usly. B. P~SOLUTION NO. 952 A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING CANVASS BY THE REGISTRAR OF VOTERS OF SANTA CLAP~ COUNTY OF SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION CONSOLIDATED WITH THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA SPECIAL 12th SENATE DISTRICT ELECTION AND GENEP~tL MUNICIPAL ELECTION (2-year term) The City Manager explained that Exhibit "A", indicating the official result of the canvass, would also serve as an exhibit to this resolution. M~/S: Callon/Matteoni to adopt Resolution 952, Confirming the Canvass by the Registrar of Voters for the 2-year term on the City Council. Carried Unanimously. C. RESOLUTION NO. 953 A RESOI,UT!O%~ CONFIRMING CANVASS BY THE REGISTRAR OF ~OTERS OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY OF SPECIaL MUNICIPAL ELECTION CONSOLIDATED WITH THE STATE OF CALIFOP~]IA SPECIAL 12~h SENATE DISTRICT ELECTION AND GENERAL Kf0NICIPAL ELECTIONs(MEASURE A) Exhibit "A" will also serve as an exhibit to this resolution. M/S: Callon/M~tteon{ to adopt Resolution 953, Confirming the Canvass by the Registar~.of Voters, Re: Measure "A". Carried unanimously. II. CONFIRMATION OF CANVASS OF VOTES (Cont-'d.) D. MAYOR KRAUS The Mayor proceeded to read a letter to the Council, indicating that due to philosophic differences relative to the right of landowners to develop their property, he would find it to be in the best interest of all concerned to tender his resignation to the City Council, effective immediately. The members of the Council individually expressed their regrets concerning the decision of Mr. Kraus, and also expressed their thanks and appreciation for his years of service. III. INSTALLATION OF ELECTED CANDIDATES The City Clerk administered the Oath of Office to the three ~ouncil appointees. IV. RE-ORGANIZATION OF CITY COUNCIL M/S: Clevenger/Jensen to elect a Mayor and Vice Mayor for a one- year term. The motion was carried unanimously. M/S: Clevenger/Mallory to nominate Councilmember Callon as Mayor. M/S: Jensen/Mallory to close the nominat~6ns..! The motion to n~om~i~na__te__Co_uncilmember Callon as ~ayor was ~rried 6{~'~riimo~fsly'. M/S: Jansen/Mallory to nominate Councilmember Clevenger as Vice Mayor. M/S: Mallory/Clevenger to close the nominations. The motion to nominate Councilmember Clevenger as Vice Mayor was carried unanimous ly. V. -~THEk BUS S ._ _- .. - Mayor Callon proceeded to read a letter from the Chairman of the Saratoga Planning Commission, expressing congratulations to the newly elected City Council, and indicating its desire to continue working with the City Council in a spirit of cooperation. VI. ADJOURNMENT M/S: Jensen/Mallory to adjourn this meeting to an Executive Session for'the purpose of discussing legal counsel. Carried unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at.'5:35 P.M. CALL TO ORDER Mayor Callon called the Specia!7Meeting ba;~[g?~Srder after the Executive Session, at 7:00 P.M.' ~ ~ M/S: Mallory/Clevenger to hire an attorney to advise the City Council on all-items directly related to Measure A, and to direct the City Manager to negotiate an agreement with Mr. Bruce Tichinin for that purpose, and have said agreement on City Council agenda for April 16th. The motion carried unanimously.
