SARATOGA CITY COUNCIL
TIME: Friday, May 2, 1980 - 1:30 p.m.
PLACE: Crisp Conference Room, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue, Saratoga, California

I. ORGANIZATION
A. ROLL CALL
Present: Councilmembers Callon, Clevenger, Mallory, Jensen
II. Interviewing of City CounCil Candidates to Rill the vacancy on
City Council
The City Council adjourned for dinner for approximately an hour,
and after interviewing additional candidates, adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
to 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning, Ma~ 3.
Reconvene Special Meeting - Saturday, May 3.- 9:00 a.m.
Interviews continued through 4:30 p.m.., when the City Council
agreed to adjourn the special meeting to 7:30 p.!m. Sunday, May 4.
Reconvene Special Meeting 'Sunday, May.4 - 7:35 p.m.
The special meeting was reconvened at-7:35 p.m. on May 4 by Mayor
Callon. After discussing the various candidates whcih they had
interviewed and getting the list narrowed down to approximately
six people~ the Council agreed that they should advertise for
additional applicants.
It was moved by Mayor Callon, seconded by Councilman Mallory,
that the City Manager be directed to advertise for applications
through Friday, May 9, and that such advertisements be~through
not only the newspaper but radio stations in the area.
It was then moved that the Council adjourn the special meeting to
2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10 .for further interviews.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05~p.m.
Adjourned Special ~eeking - Saturday, M~y 10- 2:00 p.m., Saratoga Community Ctr
Mayor Callon called the adjourned special meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.
at the Saratoga Community Center to continue for the prupose of
continued interviewing of applicants for'the City Council vacancy.
Ten people were interviewed between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on
May 10.
After the last interview, the City Council adjourned the speqial
meeting to May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Saratoga
Community Center for the prupose of discussing the selection of
a City Council candidates.
Reconvene Adjourned Special Meeting - M~nday, May 12 - 7:30 p.m., .Saratoga Community Center
· The adjourned special meeting was called to order by Mayor Callon
at7:30 p.m. on May 12 in the meeting room of the Community Center.
After some discussion, it was moved by Councilwoman Jensen, seconded
by Councilman Clevenger, that Ed Bolger be appointed to the City
Council vacancy.
The Vote was 2-2, thus the mo. tion failed.
After further discussion, it was then moved by Councilman Mallory,
seconded by Councilman Clevenger, that Dale Watson be appointed
to fill the Council vacancy.
The motion carried 3-1 (Callon).
After further.discussion, Mayor Callon asked that her lvote be
changed so that the Council could unanimously appoint Dale Watson
to this position.
This move by Mayor Callon, seconded by Mallory, that there be a
unanimous choice for Dale Watson to fill the Council vacancy.
This motion carried unanimously.
The meeting was then adjourned at 8:45 p.m. to a special adjourned
meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mayl3 in the City Council Chambers
for the purpose of swearing in Mr~ Watson·
Reconvene Adjourned Special Meeting - Tuesday, May 13 - 7:30 p.m. City Council Chambers
-Mayor Callon called the adjournedTspecial meeting to order at
7:30 p.m. The City Clerk, Robert F· Beyer, then swore in Mr. Dale
Watson to fill the vacancy on the'City Council.
III. ADJOURNMENT
After congratulations for Mr. WatSon, the meeting was adjourned
at 7:40 p.m.
