AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA REPEALING
SECTION 16-15.070 CONCERNING PREPARATION OF
BUILDING SITES, AMENDING SECTION 16-15.080
CONCERNING UNDERFLOOR CLEARANCE, REPEALING
SECTION 16-25.040 CONCERNING SIZE OF DRAINAGE
PIPE, AND AMENDING ARTICLE 16-35 TO ADOPT THE
1987 EDITION OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE.
The City Council of the City of Saratoga hereby ordains as follows:
SECTION h Section 16-15.070 in Article 16-15 of the City Code is repealed.
SECTION 2: Section 16-15.080 in Article 16-15 of the City Code is amended to
read as follows:
~S16-15.080 Section 2516(n) added concerning underfloor clearance
Section 2516(n) is hereby added to the Building Code, to read as follows:
(n) Underfloor clearance. Unless otherwise approved by the building
official, the minimum under floor clearances between the bottom of the
floor joists, and/or girders, shall not be less than 18 inches to exposed
ground in crawl spaces or excavated or unexcavated areas loeated within
the periphery of the building foundation.
This amendment to the Uniform Building Code, 1985 Edition, is required because the
· combination of the high summer time air temperatures which occur in the City, and
the large square footage of the buildings and structures constructed in the City,
necessitates the use of larger air conditioning duering to be installed in the
underfloor clearance area."
SECTION 3: Section 16-25.04{} in Article 16-25 of the City Code is repealed.
SECTION 4: Section 16-35.010 in Article 16-25 of the City Code is amended to
read as follows:
"S16-35.010 Adoption of National Electrical Code
The 1987 Edition of the National Electrical Code, as compiled and published by
the National Fire Protection Association, hereinafter referred to as the "Electrical
Code," three copies of which have been filed for use and examination by the public
in the office of the City Engineer, is hereby referred to and such Code is hereby
adopted and made a part hereof, the same as if fully set forth in this Article, and
shah be the Electrical Code of the City."

SECTION 5: Sections 16-35.020 and 16-35.030 in Article 16-35 of the City Code
are repealed.
SECTION 6: If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this
Ordinance is for any reason held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or
unconstitutional, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions
of this Ordinance. The City Council of the City of Saratoga hereby declares that it
would have passed this Ordinance and each section, subsection, sentence, clause and
phrase thereof, irrespective of the fact that one or more sections, subsections,
sentences, clauses or phrases may be held invalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION 7: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty days after its
passage and adoption.
The above and foregoing Ordinance was regularly introduced and after the
waiting time required by law, was thereafter passed and adopted at a regular
mef~ir~n~. of the City Council of the City of Saratoga held on the 6th day of
, 1988, by the following vote:
