ACTION MINUTES
I. Call to Order
Chair Manzo called the meeting to order at 10:05 a.m.
II. Roll Call
Commissioners Present: Chandra, Cross, Foscato, Johnson, Manzo
Commissioners Absent: Gipstein, O'Donnell
Council Member Present: Ann Waltonsmith
III. Report on Posting of Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was properly posted on
February 11, 2002.
IV. Approval of Minutes of November 28,2001, Library Commission
Commissioner Cross moved to approve the minutes of the November 28,
2002 meeting, Commissioner Johnson seconded the motion and it passed
5/0.
V. Old Business
a. Library Expansion Committee Update
Phase II is moving on. Phase I is nearly complete. Walls are to go up in
early April. Parking lot is complete.
b. Temporary Library Update
Temporary Library is getting busier.
c. January 8, 2002, Meeting with City Council Update
Commissioner Gipstein attended.
VI. New Business
a. Mission Statement approved by Commission 02/25/02.
"The mission of the Saratoga Library Commission is to provide guidance
and recommendations on library policies, plans and procedures to the
Cities of Saratoga and Monte Sereno and the Santa Clara County Library,
ensuring access to informational, educational, and recreational materials
and services in response to community needs."
Commissioner Cross moved to approve the mission statement,
Commissioner Foscato seconded the motion and it passed 5/0.
Commissioner Cross moved to move item VII Reports next, followed by
item Vlb Santa Clara County Library Database Overview, Commissioner
Johnson seconded the motion and it passed 5/0.
VII. Reports
a. Susan Fuller, County Librarian - Not present.
b. Dolly Barnes, Community Librarian - No report.
c. Marcia Manzo, Chair Library Commission - No report.
d. Laura Miyakawa, Acting City Staff Liason - No report.
e. Anne Cross, Friends of the Saratoga Libraries
Furniture Fundraiser is raising funds successfully.
Dr. Alan Launer, Stanford Biologist, will present "Butterflies and
Salamanders, Life in the Bay Area" on March 4, 2002.
VI b. Santa Clara County Library Database Overview - Dolly Barnes,
Community Librarian.
Dolly Barnes and library staff gave an overview of the Santa Clara County
Library Database which covered: how to access individual databases; most
useful databases; perks of the database.
VIII. Oral and Written Communication
No members of the public present.
IX. Adjournment
Commissioner Foscato moved to adjourn the meeting, Commissioner
Chandra seconded the motion and the meeting was adjourned at 12:15
p.m. 5/0.
