ACTION MINUTES
I. Call to Order
Chair Manzo called the meeting to order at 7:30pm.
II. Roll Call
Commissioners Present: Foscato, Gipstein Johnson, Manzo,
Commissioners Absent: Chandra, O'Donnell
Commissioner Tardy: Cross
III. Report on Posting of Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was properly posted on April 19, 2002.
IV. Approval of Minutes of February 24, 2002, Library Commission Meeting
Commissioner Foscato moved to approve the minutes of the February 24,2002,
Commissioner Johnson seconded the motion and it passed 4/0.
V. Oral and Written Communication
None.
VI. New Business
a. Friends of the Saratoga Libraries Presentation - Bill McDonnal
1. Overview
. 1,000 members of which 175 are active
. Given the library $900,000 in the last ten years
. Annual Income = $180,000 - 35,000 membership, 15,000 contributions, 5,000
interest, 125,000 book sales
2. Furnishing for the Future Campaign
. Sign posted at library site
. Goal- To raise $370,000 to furnish expanded library
. Recognizing donations with Ceramic Book Spines ($1 SO), Cafe Patio Bricks
($250, Business $275), Wooden Book Spines ($500), Community Room Patio
Tiles ($1,000, Business $1,500).
VII. Old Business
a. Library Expansion Committee Update
I. Luncheon for Friends of the Saratoga Fund Raising Committee on April 30 at
building site
2. Steel is on site.
3. Furnishing Sub-Committee making progress.
VIII. Reports
a. Susan Fuller, County Librarian
1. JP A to meet on April 25, 2002
2. Budget
- Upgrade of Operating System 2 - 3 million dollars from technology reserve,
operating budget, and unidentified reserve.
3. Vision Literacy
- Opened a satelite in Gilroy.
4. Joint Project w/San Jose for Alum Rock Library
- Developing an operating agreement
5. George Farrier - Former County Librarian passed away.
4. Dolly Barnes Commnnity Librarian
1. Poetry reading at Library Tonight.
a. Temporary Library circulation at 70-75% oflast year.
c. Marcia Manzo, Library Commission Chair
Encourages all Commissioners to join Friends of the Libraries and support the
Furnishing the Future Campaign.
d. Lori Burns, Staff Liaison
Updated roster.
Reviewed Updated Commission Guidelines
Announced date for Commission Recognition Dinner - September 12

IX. Adjournment
Commissioner Cross moved to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Johnson seconded the
motion and the meeting was adjourned at 9:45pm. 5/0
