Call to Order Chair Manzo called the meeting to order at 7:30pm. II. Roll Call Commissioners Present: Chandra, Foscato, Johnson, Gipstein, Manzo, O'Donnell Commissioners Excused: Cross III. Report on Posting of Agenda Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was properly posted on April 19, 2001. IV. Approval of Minutes of February 28, 2001, Library Commission Meeting Commissioner Foscato moved to approve the minutes of the February 28,2001. Commissioner Gipstein seconded the motion and it passed 6/0. V. Old Business a. Library Expansion Committee Update . Schematic Design Phase coming to a close. - Cost estimates being calculated with a goal of avoiding value engineering. . Interior Design Sub-Committee Dolly Barnes, Marcia Manzo, and Bob Peepari formed and began reviewing signage and color scheme. - Temporary Library Site and Services 1. Temporary Library Services will be provided from a 6000 sq. foot modular building located on the property of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Elementary School. a. Preliminary floor plan under revision to ensure maximum space within limited confines for computers, seating, reference desks, and limited collection. b. Parking access under study. 2. Current Library scheduled to close August 2001 and reopen September 2002. a. Public Relations Program began to educate public about limited services to include Letter to the Editors, School based flyers, etc. - Campaign will cover Monte Sereno and surrounding communities as well as City of Saratoga. Groundbreaking Ceremony Scheduled for second weekend in September 2001 ~. " . VI. New Business a. Joint Ventures with Private Businesses and Local Public Libraries 1. Discussion regarding Library Cafes: Self-Serve, Third Party, FriendsN olunteers - Commissioners Chandra, O'Donnell, Gipstein to research what other communities are doing. - To be put on Agenda in August 2001. b. Willy!. Peck Book 1. 350 copies to be printed, signed and nurnbered. - Sale to net $44,000 for Library Fund. VII. Reports a. Susan Fuller, County Librarian 1. JPA to consider allocating $381,00 from Building Reserve Fund dedicated to furuishing of Saratoga's library at meeting on 04/26/01. 2. County Budget - Service levels maintained. All self-checkout machines to be replaced. 3. CAC - Lack of quorums for more than half of last year's meetings. - Commission agreed with recommendation that regular meetings be suspended until needs substantiate. 4. Property tax shift work continues in Sacramento. b. Dollv Barnes, Commnnity Librarian Presented pilot project funded by State called Q & A Cafe. c. Marcia Manzo, Library Commission Chair Encouraged attendance at amlUal Library Issues Breakfast. d. Lori Burns, City Staff Liaison Distributed employee newsletter. e. Jim Givens, Friends ofthe Saratoe:a Libraries 1. Distributed report. 2. Announced paperback sale. 3. Library Furuiture Fund-Raising Campaign goal - $300,000. VIII. Oral and Written Communication None. IX. Adjournment Commissioner Foscato moved to adjourn the meeting.
