ACTION MINUTES
I. Call to Order
Chair Manzo called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
II. Roll Call
Commissioners Present: Chandra, Cross, Foscato, Gipstein, Johnson, Manzo,
Commissioners Absent: O'Donnell
III. Report on Posting of Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was properly posted on May 16, 2002.
IV. Oral and Written Communication
None.
V. Approval of Minutes of April 24, 2002, Library Commission Meeting
Commissioner Gipstein moved to approve the minutes of the April 24, 2002, meeting as
amended. Commissioner Foscato seconded the motion and it passed 6/0.
VI. New Business
a. Vision Literacy - Pat Lawson
1. Overview
. Largest literacy program in state
. Funded by state, county, private grants
2. Showed video
. Well organized, effective volunteer program
- Six month connnitment, ten hours of training
b. Summer Commission Meetings
No meetings in June and July.
VII. Old Business
a. Library Expansion Committee Update
I. Steel in on time and on budget
2. Contingency budget to cover power cost incurred at Sacred Heart
3. Furnishing Sub-Committee in last stage offumiture selection
4. At completion, one month no library service while move occurs
VIII. Reports
a. Susan Fuller, County Librarian
1. JP A agreed to pay for upgrade to operating system out of reserves
2. Budget
- 47% reduction in Library Fund Per Capita resulting in postponing some capital
purchases
- Vehicle licensing fees represents $1,000,000 to SCCL
3. Morgan Hill Boys Ranch
- Seeking $5,000 from Rotary club for purchase of books
b. Dolly Barnes Community Librarian
1. Children's Librarians visiting schools to promote summer reading prograrn
c. Marcia Manzo, Library Commission Chair

I. KSAR will be taping and replaying programs
2. Raised $38,000 to date in Furnishing the Future campaign

Commissioner Foscato moved to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Cross seconded the
motion and the meeting was adjourned at 9:45pm. 6/0
