MINUTES
1. Call to Order
Chair Manzo called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
2. Roll Call
Commissioners Present: Chandra, Foscato, Gipstein, Johnson, Manzo
Commissioners Excused: Cross
3. Report on Posting of the Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was properly posted on August 23,
2002.

4. Approval of Minutes of the May 27, 2002, Library Commission Meeting
Commissioner Gipstein moved to approve the minutes of the May 27,2002 meeting,
Commissioner Foscato seconded the motion and it passed 5/0.
5. Oral and Written Communication
CiCi O'Donnell resigned as a Library Commissioner. Chair Manzo read the resignation
letter to the commission.
6. New Business
a. Commission Vacancies
Commissioners Foscato and Chandra, and Chair Manzo have applied.
Commissioner Cross has not applied as ofthe meeting.
b. October Election of Chair and Vice Chair
Chair Manzo reminded the commission of the October Election.
c. Susan Fuller's Retirement
Susan's last commission meeting is on September 25,2002.
7. Old Business
a. Library Expansion Committee Update
Chair Manzo presented an overview of the library floor plan and the furniture
chosen for the front of house. The library is currently going out to bid for the
furniture.

a. Susan Fuller, County Librarian

. Diana Woo, Chair of the City of Cupertino Library Commission, informed the
commission of the re-building of the Cupertino Library. The temporary
location site for the library is 1 block west of De Anza Blvd in an existing
building. The existing library will be demolished and the new library built on
the site. The groundbreaking is plarmed for Spring 2003.
. The County will be recruiting for Susan's replacement. A nation wide search
will be conducted and interviews are plarmed for late October. It is
anticipated that an offer will be made by the end of October and the person
will start in December.
b. Dolly Barnes, Community Librarian
Dolly Barnes was not present.
c. Marcia Manzo
No report
d. Friends of the Saratoga Libraries
$118,006 has been donated to the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries. Some large
donations have been made. The Friends are pushing the purchase of engraved
bricks as donations. The bricks will be placed in the patio area.
9. Adjournment
Commissioner Foscato moved to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Johnson seconded
the motion, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m. 5/0
