Call to Order Vice Chair Cross called the meeting to order at 7:27pm. II. Roll Call Commissioners Present: Chandra, Cross, Foseato, Johnson, Commissioners absent: Gipstein, Manzo III. Report on Posting of Agenda Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was properly posted on October 15, 2002. IV. Oral and Written Communication Two applicants for Commission openings introduced themselves to group. V. Approval of Minutes of September 25, 2002, Library Commission Meeting Commissioner Foscato moved to approve the minutes of the September 25,2002, meeting Commissioner Johnson seconded the motion and it passed 4/0. VI. New Business a. Nov and Dec Commission Meeting Commissioner Johnson moved to combine the November and December Commission meetings and to hold such meeting on December II. Commissioner Foscato seconded the motion and it passed 4/0. b. Art Exhibit for Library Opening The Art Commission and the Library Commission will collaborate on the art display to be viewed during the expanded library's grand opening. The Art Commission will tour the building on December 4. The Art Commission meets on December 9 at 1 :OOpm. Dolly Barnes will attend and will call Ruth Gipstein to see if she'd like to attend, as well. The Art Commission will be invited the December 11 Library Commission meeting. c. Teen Read Week Commission viewed October 2 City Council meeting wherein the Mayor recognized Teen Read Week with a proclamation. d. Library Volunteers Dolly Barnes outline the library's volunteer program and projected substantial growth when the expanded library opened. She also highlighted the role volunteers will play in the moving process. (See handouts). .. VII. Old Business a. Library Expansion Committee Update Opening on schedu;le for Spring 2003. . Building Tour - Scheduled for December 4 at 11 :45am. RSVP to Lorie Tinfow VIII. Reports a. Julie Farnsworth, Acting County Librarian 1. State budget signed - Fiscal concerns continue 2. Interview for County Librarian held on October 23. 3. JPA to meet on October 24. . Financial Reports - State Public Library Fund reduced by 25%, Increased PERS cost . Recruitment Update . Cupertino moving into temporary facility within 30days - 54,000 sq ft building project expected to take 2 years b. Dolly Barnes Community Librarian - No additional report. c. Lori Burns, Staff Liaison Recruitment update e. Friends of the Saratoga Libraries Upcoming events include paperback sale and silent book auction IX.
