SIGNIFICANCE
19. Briefly state historical and /or architectural importance (include dates,
events, and persons associated with the site).
The significance of this site is primarily its historical association
and construction technique. The owner that initiated the gardens, John
A. Scannavino, was one of the founders of the Bank of America. The
rock used was imported from Knight's Ferry (fieldstone) and Sonoma
County (Napa stone). The improvements took four local workers skilled
in rock work, three years to complete. The majority of the work was
done by hand.
