structure and describe any major alterations from its original
condition:
This is a simple one -story bungalow with gently pitched gable roof.
The cutaway front porch at the northwest corner of the house is
enclosed by multi -paned windows, which are mirrored in the front room
on the other side of the entry. The house has no additions other than
a shed lean -to "mud room" at the rear. The construction is wood -frame
with a mud -sill foundation, basement underneath, and the house is clad
in horizontal board siding. There is an approximate 200 sq. ft. barn
at the rear of the lot. Both structures are in relatively poor
condition.

SIGNIFICANCE
19. Briefly state historical and /or architectural importance (include dates,
events, and persons associated with the site).
The owner of this property and the adjoining one (13860 Saratoga
Avenue) in the 1920's and 30's was Fred Smith, a professor of biology
at San Jose State College. Professor Smith raised lupines and exotic
roosters on the property. The property was purchased in the 1950's by
Ms. Kelly Miller, who resided there until the current owners purchased
the property in 1987. The adjoining parcel at 13860 Saratoga Avenue
was sold in 1931 for $3,000 to Mr. Pat Bucaria.
