ACTION MINUTES
I. Call to Order
Chair Manzo called the meeting to order at 7:30pm.
II. Roll Call
Commissioners Present: Chandra, Cross, Foscato, Manzo, O’Donnell, Towse
Commissioners Absent: Gipstein
III. Report on Posting of Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda was properly posted on 9/19/00.
IV. Approval of Minutes of August 23, 2000
Commissioner O’Donnell moved to approve the minutes of August 23, 2000.
Commissioner Manzo seconded the motion and it passed 7/0.
V. Old Business
Met with architect - Mark Schatz, BSA.
A. Library Expansion Committee Update
Expanded building to be no taller than nearby trees.
Parking study to commence. Additional building space will allow for more
programs increasing the need for parking spaces.
September Meeting well attended.
B. Library Expansion Community Meeting
Actual concept to be revealed at November 20th meeting.
C. Continued Discussion – Recommendation to Council re: Heritage Orchard
No action taken.
D. “Virtual Reader Presentation” – Commissioner Chandra
No action taken. Presentation was very informative.
E. Guidelines for Reviewing Art Donations
Subcommittee charged with developing guidelines for reviewing art donations.
Members: Commissioners Gipstein and Foscato and Community Librarian Barnes.
F. Commissioners Gipstein, O’Donnell, Towse Term Expirations.
Commissioners Gipstein and O’Donnell plan to reapply. Commissioner Towse has
completed more than two terms and is not eligible to reapply due to term limits.
VI. New Business
None
VII. Reports
No JPA or CAC meetings to report. Budget development and recruiting and retaining
personnel a priority.
A. Susan Fuller, County Librarian
1. Children Activity scheduled for 10/5 – Draw Your Ideal Children’s Library Wing.
B. Dolly Barnes, Community Librarian
2. Consideration for location of library services during renovation commenced.
Reminded Commissioners to let Lori know in advance if possible if unable No report.
C. Marcia Manzo, Library Commission Chair
1. Commissioners’ Recognition Event October 19th Reminder.
D. Lori Burns, City Staff Liaison
2. Current recruitments: Engineer and Office Specialist.
Written report not submitted this month. Oral report highlights:
E. Jim Givens, Friends of the Saratoga Libraries
8,800 Renewal letters not mailed in August as planned, but September.
Planning to publish autographed limited edition History of Saratoga Libraries by
Willis peck. A prospectus sale to take place prior to sale at large. Library may
receive a copy or two as a gift from Friends of the Saratoga Libraries. Two
Ansel Adams photographs never before published to be included.
No report.

IX. Adjournment
Commissioner Foscato moved to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner O’Donnell seconded
the motion and the meeting was adjourned at 9:30pm. 7/0
