HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-21-2017 Public Art Committee MinutesSaratoga Public Art Committee Minutes - Page 1 of 2 MINUTES FEBRUARY 21, 2017 PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING The Public Art Committee regular meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m. at the Saratoga Historical Foundation Museum at 20450 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road in Saratoga. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Mayor Emily Lo, Vice Mayor Mary-Lynne Bernald ABSENT: None ALSO PRESENT: James Lindsay, City Manager Crystal Bothelio, City Clerk/Asst. to City Manager Annette Stranksy, Saratoga Historical Foundation President Jill Hunter Tina Liddie Hugh Roberts AGENDA ITEMS: 1. Site Visit – Saratoga Historical Foundation Museum & Blaney Plaza Recommended Action: Call meeting to order at Saratoga Historical Foundation Museum and then walk through Saratoga Historical Foundation Museum grounds and Blaney Plaza to view prospective sites for Willys and Betty Peck Bronzes. After the site visit, the meeting will resume at the Saratoga Historical Foundation Museum. The Committee conducted a site visit of the Saratoga Historical Foundation Museum grounds and Blaney Plaza. 2. Public Art Committee Minutes Recommended Action: Approve the minutes for the January 31, 2017 Public Art Committee Meeting. BERNALD/LO MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FOR THE JANUARY 31, 2017 PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE MEETING. MOTION PASSED. AYES: LO, BERNALD. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: NONE. 3. Utility Box Art Recommended Action: Consider a proposal to paint a utility box in Saratoga and development of a utility box art program in Saratoga. The Committee considered a proposal to paint one utility box in the Village. They agreed to make a recommendation to the City Council to authorize painting the box in the Village across from Blaney Plaza and to pay the artist a $400 stipend. Saratoga Public Art Committee Minutes - Page 2 of 2 The Committee asked staff to bring back possible utility box locations throughout the City and options for a utility box artwork program, such as the program process, criteria, and artist selection. 4. Willys and Betty Peck Bronzes Recommended Action: Consider a proposal for funding and placement of life-sized bronzes of Willys and Betty Peck. The Committee considered a proposal for funding of the Willys and Betty Peck bronzes, as well as the request to locate the bench in Blaney Plaza. The Committee agreed to recommend to the City Council that: $10,000 from the Fiscal Year 2016/17 budget be allocated to the artwork; an additional $5,000 from the Fiscal Year 2016/17 budget be made available as a 50/50 matching contribution; and that the artwork be located in Blaney Plaza upon completion. 5. FY 2017/18 Public Art Allowance Recommended Action: Consider a FY 2017/18 public art budget allocation recommendation to the City Council. The Committee considered the budget request for the 2017/18 budget and agreed to recommend an allocation of $15,000. 6. Public Art Committee Mission & Purpose Recommended Action: Consider and discuss the mission and purpose of the Public Art Committee. The Committee agreed to discuss this item at a future meeting.
