HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-04-2018 Public Art Committee MinutesSaratoga Public Art Committee Minutes - Page 1 of 2 MINUTES JANUARY 4, 2018 PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING The Public Art Committee regular meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m. in the City Hall Administrative Conference Room at 13777 Fruitvale Avenue in Saratoga. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Mayor Mary-Lynne Bernald, Council Member Emily Lo ABSENT: None ALSO PRESENT: James Lindsay, City Manager Crystal Bothelio, Deputy City Manager REPORT ON POSTING OF THE AGENDA Deputy City Manager Crystal Bothelio reported that the agenda for this meeting was properly posted on December 22, 2017. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ON NON-AGENDIZED ITEMS None AGENDA ITEMS: 1. Public Art Committee Minutes Recommended Action: Review and approve the Public Art Committee minutes from October 19, 2017. LO/BERNALD MOVED TO APPROVE THE PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE MINUTES FROM OCTOBER 19, 2017. MOTION PASSED. AYES: LO, BERNALD. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: NONE. 2. Paint the City: Utility Box Painting Project Applications Recommended Action: Review Paint the City applications submitted by the December 2, 2017 deadline. Applications will be provided at the Public Art Committee meeting. The Public Art Committee reviewed applications and selected two to three submittals per utility box location. The Committee requested that the Peak Democracy survey on the selected artwork include a question that asks if the survey participant resides in Saratoga and to exclude responses from participants who are not Saratoga residents in the final vote counts. 3. Rock Painting Program Recommended Action: Preview rock painting program kits and guidelines. Saratoga Public Art Committee Minutes - Page 2 of 2 The Committee reviewed the kits and recommended that staff reach out to several groups in the community that may be interested in reserving a kit. 4. Wall Mural Recommended Action: Consider acceptance and location of mural, as a gift from Peter Mester, Pavel Mester, and Cal Arte. The Committee requested that staff provide some recommended locations for the artwork. 5. Public Art Budget Recommended Action: Receive update on the Public Art Budget. Due to time constraints, staff agreed to email the Committee the current Public Art Budget balance. 6. Future Meetings Recommended Action: Discuss agenda topics and scheduling of future meetings. The Committee scheduled the next meeting for February 12 at 5:00 p.m. and agreed to the following agenda items: - Paint the City survey results - Wall Mural ADJOURNMENT Mayor Bernald adjourned the meeting at 1:58 p.m. Minutes respectfully submitted: Crystal Bothelio, Deputy City Manager City of Saratoga
