HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-12-2018 Public Art Committee MinutesSaratoga Public Art Committee Meeting Minutes - Page 1 of 2 MINUTES FEBRUARY 12, 2018 PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING The Public Art Committee regular meeting was called to order at 5:09 p.m. in the Joan Pisani Community Center, Recreation Conference Room at 19655 Allendale Avenue in Saratoga. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Mayor Mary-Lynne Bernald, Council Member Emily Lo ABSENT: None ALSO PRESENT: James Lindsay, City Manager Crystal Bothelio, Deputy City Manager REPORT ON POSTING OF THE AGENDA Deputy City Manager Crystal Bothelio reported that the agenda for this meeting was properly posted on February 8, 2018. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ON NON-AGENDIZED ITEMS None AGENDA ITEMS: 1. Public Art Committee Minutes Recommended Action: Review and approve the Public Art Committee minutes from January 4, 2018. LO/BERNALD MOVED TO APPROVE THE PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE MINUTES FROM JANUARY 4, 2018. MOTION PASSED. AYES: BERNALD, LO. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: NONE. 2. Paint the City Peak Democracy Voting & Kickoff Event Recommended Action: Review results of the Paint the City survey on Peak Democracy and consider plans for the Paint the City kickoff event on March 24, 2018. The Committee reviewed the results of the survey and agreed to conduct the kickoff on March 24, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall. They requested a certificate to recognize each of the volunteers. 3. Wall Mural Recommended Action: Consider acceptance and location of mural, as a gift from Peter Mester, Pavel Mester, and Cal Arte. Saratoga Public Art Committee Meeting Minutes - Page 2 of 2 The Committee agreed that the Joan Pisani Community Center Lobby location is the best option for a mural. The Committee requested three conceptual designs that capture community activity and movement, do not contain a political or religious message, and are not predominately red, white, and blue. The Public Art Committee agreed to review conceptual artwork and make a recommendation regarding placement to the City Council. 4. Amended Public Art Policy Recommended Action: Consider draft amendment to the City’s Public Art Policy. The Public Art Committee discussed the draft policy amendment. The Committee recommended City Council adoption of the amended policy with an additional provision that would only allow the Public Art Committee to approve public art on City proprety that would be in place three years or less. 5. Future Meetings Recommended Action: Discuss agenda topics and scheduling of future meetings. The Committee agreed to include the following items on the next meeting agenda, which will be scheduled after getting additional information about the mural donation. - Wall Mural - Public Art Map (if the meeting occurs after utility boxes have been painted) - Status Update on #SaratogaROCKS ADJOURNMENT Mayor Bernald adjourned the meeting at 5:57 p.m. Minutes respectfully submitted: Crystal Bothelio, Deputy City Manager City of Saratoga
