Call to Order: 6:35 pm
Commissioners Present: Ping Li, Renee Paquier, Terry Ward, Rick Pearce
Commissioners Absent: Pallavi Sharma
Guests: Tyler Taylor
Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, this meeting was properly
posted on May 4, 2018.
Accept Agenda Items: No additional items may be added pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2.
Commissioner Paquier motioned to approve agenda
Commissioner Pearce seconded motion
Motion passed 4-0.
Oral & Written Communication: Any member of the public may address the Commission about any matter not
on the agenda for this meeting for up three minutes. Commissioners may not comment on the matter,
but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda.
Approval of Draft March 20, 2018 Parks and Recreation Commission (PRC) Minutes:
Commissioner Pearce motioned to approve minutes
Commissioner Paquier seconded motion
Motion passed 4-0.
Agenda:
1. Age-friendly Cities Update
Tyler Taylor from SASCC came to the meeting to discuss the Age Friendly Cities update and how he and
his team could help do more to make Saratoga more age friendly. He spoke on the presentation the
Parks and Recreation Commission did at one of the SASCC lunches last month and how all the
participants enjoyed the videos that were shown on all the parks. Tyler expressed his interest in the
Parks and Recreation Commission participating more.
Tyler also expressed his interest in SASCC helping out with Docent led tours to all the city parks in
Saratoga. Commissioner Paquier mentioned talking to the Parks Management department at West
Valley College to see if anyone would be interested in leading groups.

One of the discussion topics was running a Movie in the afternoon after one of the SASCC lunches in
June. He will be figuring out a location for the movie and will be updating the Parks and Recreation
Commission Liaison with his findings.
Commission passed motion, approving Movie Night with SASCC to the afternoon with a tentative date in
June.
o Commissioner Paquier motioned to approve.
o Commissioner Li seconded motion.
o Motion passed 4-0.
2. Movie Night
Discussed June 15, 2018 Movie Night and how Star Wars is not an eligible movie that month due to
Disney blocking all movie licenses for Star Wars movies in the month of June.
Commission passed motion, approving switching the June 15, 2018 movie to Black Panther.
o Commissioner Pearce motioned to approve.
o Commissioner Ward seconded motion.
o Motion passed 4-0.
3. Work Plan Update
Commission discussed asking Lauren Pettipiece to attend next meeting to go over the electronic
suggestion box and how to promote it.
4. Volunteer Work at Quarry
April work at Quarry cancelled due to no commissioners being able to attend. Volunteer work at Quarry
will resume in November when rain comes back and softens the ground.
5. Park Improvements
One of the big questions the commission discussed was how is the Parks and Recreation Commission
can make suggestions on revamping City parks. Concerns about Wildwood and how it is getting
outdated.
