Action Minutes
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m.

Roll Call
Commissioners present: Ceppos, Martini, Peacock,
Sessler, Skow, Towse
Commissioner absent: Grantham
Others present: Elaine Hocker, resident
III. Report on Posting of Commission Agenda
The agenda was posted on May 18, 1994
IV. Approval of Minutes of April 27, 1994,_ Meeting
The minutes were approved as submitted.
V. Old Business
A. Foundation
Chair Sally Towse reported on the Foundation's
May 5 reception for prospective members.
B. Reconsideration of Commission Barbecue
Chair Towse reported that the Saratoga Parade
had been cancelled for this year. The con-
sensus of the Commission was to also cancel
plans for a fund raising barbecue which would
have taken place after the parade

Development of Model for Library Services at $33
Assessment Level
Staff Carolyn King explained that the Commission
should begin thinking about open hours and services
at the proposed new level of funding so that the
residents would know what the benefit assessment

would buy. It was agreed to begin discussion next
meeting, and to think about methods to survey the
community on their wishes. Chair Towse will contact
the Saratoga News about printing a survey form.
Reports
Susan Fuller, County Librarian
County Librarian Susan Fuller reported that the City
of Monte Sereno had voted to participate in the
joint powers agreement and the assessment district.
The survey which was conducted during National
Library Week was very helpful and provided a good
overview. Funds raised by the bowling tournament
put on by Cadence Corporation will go to the library
system. Funds will be used to extend the Internet.
Dolly Barnes, Community Librarian
Community Librarian Dolly Barnes reported that
staff and volunteers were learning to use the self
check-out machine donated by the Friends. The
volunteer program is still going strong.
Carolyn King, City Staff Representative
No report.
Sally Towse, Chair
Chair Sally reviewed the all commissions meeting on
June 4. She and Commissioners Peacock, Sessler,
and Ceppos will be attending. Staff will mail
registrations.
VIII. Communications from City Council

IX. Oral and Written Communications
A. Oral Request for Budget Information
Elaine Hocker requested information from
the staff regarding the County Library system
budget and the allocations for the Saratoga
Library. County Librarian Fuller gave an
overview of the funding, and made an
appointment with Ms. Hocker to go into the
subject in more depth.
B. Request for Volunteers for White House
Conference on Libraries, City of Santa Clara,
August 5-7
No Action
C. Invitation from Saratoga Foothill Club to
Participate in Memorial Day Services
No Action
