Committee
County Librarian Susan Fuller commented that
all of the Commissioners had received minutes
from the all -commission workshop. There are
a number of issues still to be decided for the
ballot measure, such as a cap on future
increases, the maximum assessment for large
commercial properties, and the idea of a sunset
clause. Chair Towse reported that she is on
the steering committee and they are working on
wording for the ballot measure. They will be
working with the consultant and making
decisions on the campaign.

B. Development of Model for Library Services at
$33 Assessment Level 'continued from Mav_
meeting)
The Commission discussed the specifics of what
the service level would be so they could tell
the community. It looks like the assessment
funding would provide for 55 hours per week.
This would bring the open hours back to the
prior level, and could also provide additional
hours for Thursday night and Tuesday morning.
There was also discussion of the book/materials
budget. It was decided to leave this item on
the agenda for discussion at every meeting.
Reports
Susan Fuller, County Librarian
County Librarian Fuller reported that funds raised
by the bowling tournament put on by Cadence
Corporation on June 25 should reach their goal of
$100,000, which will go to the library system.
Funds will be used to extend the Internet. She also
distributed copies of the formula for 94/95.
Dolly Barnes, Community Librarian
Community Librarian Dolly Barnes distributed copies
of the customer satisfaction survey data which was
gathered at the library in April. The results were
very positive. She reported that the summer reading
club had begun, and that they were organizing a
program for junior volunteers.

Dear Commissioner Towse:
Each year CALTAC gives special statewide recognition to individuals and
organizations chosen for their outstanding service to libraries. This provides an
opportunity for commissioners to single out exemplary supporters of libraries.
The Los Altos Library Commissioners have voted unanimously to nominate Dianne
McKenna for her work this year on the Santa Clara County Library Task Force which
sought a funding solution for our libraries. Her leadership and advocacy were
instrumental in the implementation of the task force.
We are nominating Dianne in category 5, "Elected Local, state, or federal official from
California for special support or promotion of legislation to benefit libraries and/or
library services." The application form is in the quarterly CALTACTICS newsletter, No.
2, April -June, 1994 (see attached).
Perhaps your commissioners would also consider Dianne McKenna for this category
of the award. The more nominations submitted the greater the opportunity for
selection.
Sincerely,
Susan Heintzelman. Chair
