HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-30-2019 Public Art Committee MinutesSaratoga Public Art Committee Minutes - Page 1 of 2 MINUTES JANUARY 30, 2019 PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING The Public Art Committee regular meeting was called to order at 3:03 p.m. in the Linda Callon Conference Room at City Hall at 13777 Fruitvale Avenue. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Council Members Mary-Lynne Bernald, Yan Zhao ABSENT: None ALSO PRESENT: James Lindsay, City Manager Crystal Bothelio, Deputy City Manager Lauren Pettipiece, Public Information Office Holly Van Hart REPORT ON POSTING OF THE AGENDA Deputy City Manager Crystal Bothelio reported that the agenda for this meeting was properly posted on January 24, 2019. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ON NON-AGENDIZED ITEMS None AGENDA ITEMS: 1. Public Art Committee Minutes Recommended Action: Review and approve the Public Art Committee minutes from November 27, 2018. BERNALD/ZHAO MOVED TO APPROVE THE PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 27, 2018. MOTION PASSED. AYES: BERNALD, ZHAO. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: NONE. 2. Public Art Outreach Recommended Action: Receive information about public art outreach efforts at the meeting and provide feedback. Public Information Officer Lauren Pettipiece shared examples of past City outreach on public art. The Public Art Committee requested that staff share information about Paint the City volunteer opportunities with City Commissioners. 3. Paint the City: Utility Box Painting Project Applications Recommended Action: Saratoga Public Art Committee Minutes - Page 2 of 2 Review Paint the City applications and select up to 3 conceptual designs at each location. Deputy City Manager Crystal Bothelio provided a report on the Paint the City applications. The Public Art Committee reviewed the applications. Holly Van Hart commented on the applications. The Public Art Committee selected three conceptual designs for each of the 5 utility box locations. The Committee also agreed to hold the Paint the City Kickoff on Saturday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m. 4. Public Art Budget Recommended Action: Consider the Public Art budget for Fiscal Year 2019/20. The Public Art Committee discussed the budget for Fiscal Year 2019/20. ZHAO/BERNALD MOVED TO RECOMMEND TO THE CITY COUNCIL AN ALLOCATION OF $20,000 FOR PUBLIC ART IN THE FISCAL YEAR 2019/20 BUDGET. MOTION PASSED. AYES: BERNALD, ZHAO. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: NONE. 5. Future Meetings Recommended Action: Discuss agenda topics and scheduling of future meetings. The Committee agreed to hold a meeting on February 28, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. Agenda items will include: - Paint the City Voting Results - Plans for the Kickoff Event - Discussion of Future Public Art Ideas ADJOURNMENT The Public Art Committee adjourned at 4:37 p.m. Minutes respectfully submitted: Crystal Bothelio, Deputy City Manager City of Saratoga
