HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-14-2019 Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes City of Saratoga Parks and Recreation Commission Regular Meeting Minutes DATE: Tuesday, May 14, 2019 TIME: 6:30 p.m. LOCATION: Joan Pisani Community Center, Patio Room 19655 Allendale Avenue Saratoga, CA 95070 Call to Order: Chair Ping called the meeting to order at 6:37pm. Commissioners Present: Ping Li, Rick Pearce, Terry Ward, Renee Paquier Commissioners Absent: Sandy Muju (excused) Guests: Kristin Borel, Kayla Nakamoto, and Youth Commissioners Christopher Smails, Kami Cheatham, Naisha Agarwal Report on Posting of the Agenda: Michael Taylor reported that pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, this meeting was properly posted on May 10, 2019. Accept Agenda Items: No additional items may be added pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2. On a motion by Renee, seconded by Rick, the agenda was unanimously approved as posted. Oral & Written Communication: Any member of the public may address the Commission about any matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up three minutes. Commissioners may not comment on the matter but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda. There was no public comment. Approval of Parks and Recreation Commission (PRC) Draft Minutes: On a motion by Renee, seconded by Rick, the minutes of the March 12, 2019 meeting were unanimously approved. Agenda: 1. Movie Nights: The Youth Commissioners and their staff liaison provided the Park & Recreation Commission with input on the event. Suggestions considered were sending flyers to the YC for them to post individually on their social media, a root beer float event, and a joint meeting with the PRC and YC in September (or November). The guests then left for their own meeting at 7:00. Event assignments for June 21st and July 19th movies were discussed with Rick agreeing to pick up the donut donation from Rose’s, Renee will pick up coffee and hot water donations from Starbucks. It appears that all Commissioners will be able to attend all three summer movies except Renee will miss July. 2. Park Naming: It was decided that further research was needed to make a recommendation to Council regarding naming the new park at Pollard and Quito. Michael shared a history manual that John Cherbone had. Names such as Goodrich, Peck, Payne, Pollard, were all discussed. Renee reported that the property appeared to have been donated to the City by the Santoro family, but was unable to 1 confirm that. Staff as asked to see if there are any City records indicating the source(?) of that plot. The item was tabled until next meeting. 3. 2019/2020 Work Plan: No new Work Plan was developed, but the current Plan was reviewed and discussed. No changes in the existing Plan were recommended. Commissioner and Staff Reports: (This includes committee updates and park reports. This section is informational only; no actions will be taken.) Commissioner Park Li Wildwood, Foothill, Quarry – concern over potential landslides in the upper section of Quarry Park. Muju El Quito, Gardiner – nothing to report Pearce Bell Grove, Congress Springs, Ravenwood – bollards in front of snack shack at Congress Springs need to be painted Paquier Beauchamp, Brookglen – nothing to report Ward Azule, Kevin Moran, No Name – nothing to report Agenda Items for Next Meeting July 9, 2019: • Event assignments and the next steps for August 16th movie. • Parks Improvement and Renovation Plans • Additional Age Friendly drone videos Adjournment: On a motion by Renee, seconded by Rick, the meeting was adjourned at 8:14pm.
