RESOLUTION No. HP-19-03
RESOLUTION OF THE HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA FOR APPLICATION HPC19-0009
TO UPDATE THE HERITAGE RESOURCE INVENTORY BY INCLUDING THE
SARATOGA FEDERATED CHURCH BELL LOCATED AT 20390 PARK PLACE
WHEREAS, the Heritage Preservation Commission was established by the City
Council in 1982 to assist with and encourage the preservation of Saratoga’s heritage resources,
and
WHEREAS, one of the Commission’s primary duties, as established in Section
13.10.040(a) of the City Code is to update the Heritage Resource Inventory, and
WHEREAS, in 1988 the Heritage Preservation Commission added Saratoga Federated
Church to the Heritage Resource Inventory.
WHEREAS, on July 9, 2019, the Heritage Preservation Commission held a duly
noticed public meeting on the subject matter, and considered evidence presented by a Heritage
Preservation Commissioner, City staff, the property owner, and other interested parties that the
bell located at Saratoga Federated Church had special historic significance which justified a
separate designation.
NOW THEREFORE, the Heritage Preservation Commission of the City of Saratoga
hereby finds, determines and resolves as follows:
Section 1: The recitals set forth above are true and correct and incorporated herein by
reference.
Section 2: The Heritage Preservation Commission has determined that criteria (a) and (b) as
established by Section 13.15.010 of Saratoga’s Municipal Code, have been met to include the bell
located at 20390 Park Place in the Heritage Resource Inventory as follows:
• It exemplifies or reflects special elements of the cultural, social, economic, political,
aesthetic, engineering or architectural history of the City, the County, the State or the nation
in that the bell retains its architectural design, workmanship and materials as well as a
compatible setting; and
• It is identified with persons or events significant in local, county, state or national history in
that the bell was originally installed at the first permanent religious organization in Saratoga
on Oak Street.
Section 3: The Heritage Preservation Commission hereby approves HPC19-0009 to
include the bell at 20390 Park Place on the Heritage Resource Inventory.

Saratoga on this 9th day of July 2019 by the following vote:
AYES: Marchetti, Shah, and Nugent
