** Spring Safety Shouldn't Be a Pain in the Bud **
Check out these tips from the City of Saratoga to prevent home break-ins and keep you and your family safe this spring:
1. Always close and lock all windows, doors, and gates overnight and before you leave home
2. Make your home look occupied when you aren’t there by keeping lights on inside and outside of your home
3. Store items of high value in a safety deposit box at the bank
4. Consider a home security system with motion sensors that can detect when a window is broken, has communication capabilities
that will notify 9-1-1 dispatchers when the alarm is set off, and has surveillance cameras that can record suspicious activity
5. Be a good neighbor by immediately reporting suspicious activity to 9-1-1, such as unfamiliar people or vehicles at a neighbor's house
** Stop the Spread of Wildfires with Defensible Space **
Defensible space is a buffer created around structures by removing plants, grass, weeds, and other flammable materials. It is one of the most
effective tools in stopping the spread of wildfires, improving your home’s chance of surviving, and protecting the firefighters responding to
a fire.
Whether you live in a high-fire hazard zone or not, make Saratoga safer by adding some simple fire prevention practices to your spring
cleaning routine. Remove leaves from gutters, clean out vents, trim back tree limbs from your home and chimney, and move flammable
materials (like firewood piles or dry leaves) away from the exterior walls of your home.

CITY OF SARATOGA PUBLIC SAFETY TIPS
** Help the Community During Disasters **
Learn to prepare yourself and support your community in the event
of a disaster. Sign up for the Community Emergency Response Team
(CERT) Academy in Saratoga, which begins on May 12 and consists of six
evening training sessions and a final skills exercise. Santa Clara County
Fire Department will teach CERT members to mobilize neighborhood
resources, deliver immediate assistance to victims, organize emergency
communications, and provide support to first responders.

** Weed & Brush Abatement **
The Weed Abatement and Brush Abatement Programs help protect
Saratoga from wildfire by promoting defensible space and reducing potential
fuel, like weeds. Properties throughout the City are inspected annually in the
spring for compliance with both the Weed Abatement Program and Brush
Abatement Program.
