SARATOGA LIBRARY COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
FEBRUARY 8, 2021
CALL TO ORDER
Chair Cristina Meiser called the virtual meeting to order at

REPORTS
1. Saratoga Teen Advisory Board
Teen Advisory Board Members Lauren Sutioso and Viraaj Reddi shared updates on
SED Talks, Coffeehouse, College Day, and Crafternoon events.
2. Santa Clara County Library District
County Librarian Jennifer Weeks shared updates about Silicon Valley Reeds,
provided information about temporary staffing changes during the recruitment of a
new Deputy Librarian, and announced the County Library District had the highest
growth rate in digital book checkouts of any library system.
3. Saratoga Community Library
Acting Saratoga Community Librarian Nichole King introduced herself to the
Commission.
4. Friends of the Saratoga Libraries
Chair Cristina Meiser noted on behalf of the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries that
the Book-Go-Round has been an excellent place to purchase used books.

6. City of Saratoga
Assistant City Manager Crystal Bothelio shared information about the City Council
Retreat Series, Housing Element Update, Inclusive Playground Equipment
Fundraiser, public art projects, and COVID-19.

Recommended Action:
Review and approve the minutes from December 22, 2020 Regular Meeting and
January 19, 2021 Special Meeting.
GULINO/WHITE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM DECEMBER 22, 2020
REGULAR MEETING AND JANUARY 19, 2021 SPECIAL MEETING, WITH A
CORRECTION TO THE JANUARY 19, 2021 MINUTES TO REMOVE CHRIS BROWN
AND DAVID GUIDRY FROM THE LIST OF ATTENDEES. MOTION PASSED. AYES:
GULINO, LEWIS, MEISER, WHITE, ZHANG. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT:
NONE.
2. Paint the City: Utility Box Painting Project
Recommended Action:
Review qualified Paint the City applications and recommend up to 3 designs for the 3
Paint the City locations to the Public Art Committee for public voting.
Analyst Kayla Nakamoto introduced the agenda item and requested that the
Commission select up to 3 designs for each Paint the City location to recommend to
the Public Art Committee for public voting.
The Commission made the following artwork recommendations:
• Location 1: Ella Zhang, Shannon Wang, and Lorraine and Mara Sheu
• Location 2: Star Davis and Deb Conway, Tiffany Huang and Audrey Tang, and
Levana and Zerlina Lai
• Location 3: Clementine Dickson-Child, Jasmine Qin, and Susan Seichrist

3. Community News & Trends
Recommended Action:
Share news and trends within the community.
No news and trends were shared.
SUMMARIZE ACTION ITEMS
Staff was asked to share a copy of the Commission’s proposed work plan prior to the Work
Plan Study Session in March.
