SARATOGA LIBRARY COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
APRIL 12, 2021
CALL TO ORDER
Chair Cristina Meiser called the virtual meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Cristina Meiser, Vice Chair Eric Lewis, Commissioners Robert
Gulino, Steven White, Victoria Zhang
Absent: None
Also Present: Steve Fitzgerald, Nichole King, Lauren Sutioso, Viraaj Reddi, Kayla
Nakamoto, Crystal Bothelio

1. Library & Community Engagement Commission Minutes
Recommended Action:
Review and approve the minutes from February 8, 2021 Regular Meeting.
GULINO/WHITE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE FEBRUARY 8, 2021
REGULAR MEETING. MOTION PASSED. AYES: GULINO, LEWIS, MEISER, WHITE. NOES:
NONE. ABSTAIN: ZHANG. ABSENT: NONE.
2. Saratoga Teen Advisory Board Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Saratoga Teen Advisory Board report.
Teen Advisory Board Co-Presidents Lauren Sutioso and Viraaj Reddi shared a report,
providing information on recent activities and remaining activities for the year. Topics
included a recent game night, Coffeehouse, Crafternoon, and College Day.
3. Santa Clara County Library District Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Santa Clara County Library District report.

Steve Fitzgerald, Deputy County Librarian, shared information about the
Distinguished Author Series, reopening of libraries, National Library Week, and the
April Joint Powers Authority board meeting.
4. Saratoga Community Library Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Saratoga Community Library report.
Nichole King, Acting Community Librarian, shared information about story times and
some of the benefits of providing these virtually, such as providing programming in
different languages. She also discussed trends related to the reopening of the
Saratoga Library lobby. She also shared information about the upcoming Friends of
Saratoga Libraries book sale in the parking lot.
5. Friends of the Saratoga Libraries Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Friends of the Saratoga Libraries report.

6. Library & Community Engagement Commission Chair Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Library & Community Engagement Commission Chair report.
Chair Cristina Meiser shared a summary of the Work Plan Study Session with the City
Council.
Vice Chair Eric Lewis proposed a future agenda item on how the Commission can
work on highlighting the diverse cultural heritages in Saratoga.
7. City of Saratoga Report
Recommended Action:
Receive City of Saratoga report.
Crystal Bothelio, Assistant City Manager, shared an update on Paint the City, Saratoga
Power Lunch, Toga Trails, and Housing Element Community Meetings.
8. Community News & Trends
Recommended Action:
Share news and trends within the community.

Chair Cristina Meiser spoke about the COVID-19 vaccines and some of the questions
she has received as an employer and the difficulty in finding information. She also
spoke about some of the trends that emerged during the pandemic that may
continue, such as virtual programing and activities.
9. Housing Element Update
Recommended Action:
Receive an informational presentation on the Housing Element Update.
Crystal Bothelio, Assistant City Manager, shared a presentation on the Housing
Element Update.

AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING – JUNE 14, 2021
The Commission agreed to hold the June 14 meeting at 5:00 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m.
