Site Visit(s) a. None 2. Call to Order: Chair Shah called the meeting to order at 8:30 AM 3. Roll Call: Present: Chair Rina Shah, Vice Chair Annette Stransky, Sharon Boyce-Bender, , and Priya Shastri Absent: Marie Lopresto (excused) Staff: Nicole Johnson, Senior Planner Applicants: Eren Gonen, owner of 19174 De Havilland Drive. Edward Saum, Former San Jose Historical Landmarks commissioner, Guest Speaker. 4. Oral Communications: None 5. Approval of the July 13, 2021 and July 20, 2021 minutes STRANSKY/SHASTRI MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FOR THE JULY 13 AND JULY 20, 2021, MEETINGS WITH MINOR MODIFICATIONS. MOTION PASSED. AYES: SHAH, SHASTRI, STRANSKY, BOYCE-BENDER. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: LOPRESTO 6. New Business a. 19174 DeHavilland Drive STRANSKY/SHASTRI MOVED TO APPROVE RESOLUTION HP21-0006 TO ADD THE PROPERTY TO THE HERITAGE RESOURCE INVENTORY. MOTION PASSED. AYES: SHAH, SHASTRI, STRANSKY, BOYCE-BENDER. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: LOPRESTO b. Guest Speaker (Edward Saum) Page 2 of 2 Mr. Saum former San Jose Historical Landmarks Commissioner discussed historical advocacy. The HPC commissioners asked questions of Mr. Saum and discussed how to engage residents and get them involved in historic preservation. 7. Staff Comments a. Heritage Orchard update Nicole Johnson directed the commissioners to review the update provided from Orchard Keepers. b. Nicole Johnson reminded the commissioners that there will be a vacancy in December and to encourage interested parties to apply by November 17th. 8. Old Business a. Heritage Preservation Ordinance update • Update from Commissioners Chair Shah and Stransky are currently working on providing language, for November. b. Project status worksheet a. The commissioners discussed the project worksheet and made adjustments to assigned properties. 9. Commission Items Commissioner Stransky was approached by Parks and Recreation Commission to work together on signage for the Heritage Orchard as well as other historical signs in City Parks. Should be standards of what the signs are going to look like, so the signs are consistent. 10. Adjournment Chair Shah adjourned the meeting at 9:56 AM.
