COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
DECEMBER 16, 2021
CALL TO ORDER
Chair Eric Lewis called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Eric Lewis, Vice Chair Victoria Zhang Commissioner Cristina Meiser
Absent: Commissioner Robert Gulino
Also Present: Steve Fitzgerald, Nichole King, David Guidry, Ahana Chakraborty, Ayushi

1. Library & Community Engagement Commission Minutes
Recommended Action:
Review and approve the minutes from October 12, 2021 Regular Meeting.
MEISER/ZHANG MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM OCTOBER 12, 2021
REGULAR MEETING WITH A CORRECTION TO THE MEETING DATE. MOTION PASSED.
AYES: LEWIS, MEISER, ZHANG. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: GULINO.
2. Saratoga Teen Advisory Board Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Saratoga Teen Advisory Board report.
Ahana Chakraborty and Ayushi Chakraborty from the Saratoga Teen Advisory Board
reported on recent activities and upcoming events.
3. Santa Clara County Library District Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Santa Clara County Library District report.
Steve Fitzgerald, Deputy County Librarian, provide a report on the Library District. He
noted Holiday library resources available, the addition of West Woods videos to the

District collection, virtual library tours, new library card design, Silicon Valley Reads,
January Joint Powers Authority Board Meeting, and the February Library District Forum.
4. Saratoga Community Library Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Saratoga Community Library report.
Nichole King, Saratoga Community Librarian, reported on the addition of Sunday hours
starting in January 2022, upcoming events and activities, school visits, participation in
Saratoga’s State of the City, and holiday-related activities.
5. Friends of the Saratoga Libraries Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Friends of the Saratoga Libraries report.
David Guidry, Saratoga Friends of the Libraries, reported on Book-Go-Round retail sales,
memberships, recent events, and collaborations with other local organizations.
6. Library & Community Engagement Commission Chair Report
Recommended Action:
Receive Library & Community Engagement Commission Chair report.
Chair Eric Lewis shared his work with staff on development of the draft 2022 work plan.
7. City of Saratoga Report
Recommended Action:
Receive City of Saratoga report.
Crystal Bothelio, Assistant City Manager, reported on continuation of virtual meetings
and selection of new Mayor and Vice Mayor.
8. Community News & Trends
Recommended Action:
Share news and trends within the community.
None
9. 2022 Work Plan
Recommended Action:
Finalize the proposed 2022 Work Plan for City Council consideration. A special meeting
may be scheduled if the Commission would like more time to finalize the proposed 2022
Work Plan.

The Commission reviewed the draft 2022 work plan and agreed to finalize the proposed
work plan for Council consideration at the February 2022 meeting.
Chair Eric Lewis asked each Commissioner to consider work plan items that they would
like to act as champion for.
10. Commission Meeting Schedule
Recommended Action:
Review the Commission’s meeting schedule for the upcoming year, consider whether to
cancel or reschedule the October 2022 meeting, and make any other schedule
adjustments that may be desired.
The Commission agreed to reschedule the February meeting for February 7 and the
October meeting for October 3. The Commission also agreed to hold the February
meeting at an earlier time if desired by Chair Eric Lewis.
