is occurring:
Old Oak Way
Description of traffic safety
concern:
After number of neighbors expressed fire safety and traffic safety
concerns in mid 2020 and after we toured our street with John Cherbone and
Mainini Cabute, the City drafted a preliminary Traffic Safety improvement
plan. That plan deals with street surface repair, sight distance issues, hidden
driveways, speeding, etc. and identified neighborhood responsibilities as
well as city responsibilities.
Suggestions to address the
traffic safety concern:
The City has generated a Traffic Calming plan that includes street surface
repair, hidden driveway and speed limit signs, painted lines and other speed
reductions actions, etc. It also identified neighborhood responsibilities such as
sight line clearance on curves, branch removal, hidden driveway mirrors, etc.
Much of the neighborhood work has been completed.

#539 Quito Rd at Maude Ave
Date Received: June 24, 2022
Street name and cross street(s)
where the traffic safety concern
is occurring:
Quito and Maude Ave intersection
Description of traffic safety
concern:
When you enter Quito from Maude- it's very hard to see traffic coming from
the left side. People drive very fast on Quito and it's very scary to take a turn
from Maude.
Suggestions to address the
traffic safety concern:
My suggestion is to put some bumps before Maude and Quito intersection to
add low down the traffic. A mirror on the pole or tree on Quito intersection in
front of Maude Ave so that it's easy to see the traffic coming from the left
side. I want someone from Traffic department to come and see in person.
Will be really appreciated. Thank you very much.

#543 Oak St and Komina Ave
Date Received: August 7, 2022
Street name and cross street(s)
where the traffic safety concern
is occurring:
Oak St. and Komina Ave.
Description of traffic safety
concern:
Cars regularly fail to stop at the 3-way intersection at Oak St. and Komina Ave.
Cars traveling on Oak St. towards Saratoga-Los Gatos Rd. are the most
dangerous when failing to stop, because they are traveling downhill and
generally exceeding the speed limit as well.
Suggestions to address the
traffic safety concern:
Post police during commute hours to support safe driving practices.

#545 Saratoga Ave at Sun Valley Ct
Date Received: August 15, 2022
Street name and cross street(s)
where the traffic safety concern
is occurring:
Saratoga Avenue and entrance to Sun Valley Court
Description of traffic safety
concern:
Two new houses are being constructed on Saratoga Ave. One of these houses
is on the corner of Sun Valley Court and Saratoga Avenue. There is no space
for visitor car parking on Sun Valley Court outside of the new house on the
corner, so people will be forced to park on Saratoga Ave next to SV Ct
entrance. This causes multiple dangerous situations: firstly, it dangerously
blocks the view down Saratoga Ave when pulling out on to Saratoga Avenue,
with two lanes of 40+mph traffic coming. Secondly, for vehicles approaching
along Saratoga Ave wishing to turn into SV Ct, it makes it very difficult to see
pedestrians, and there is a very real danger of a pedestrian being struck by a
car turning into the court. Thirdly, cars parked in this region make it very
difficult for large vehicles and trucks to make the tight turn into SV Ct, which
could dangerously hamper emergency vehicles from entering the court.
Suggestions to address the
traffic safety concern:
The residents of the three existing houses on Sun Valley Court have met and
we suggest that making the road either side of the Sun Valley Court entrance
from Saratoga Ave into a red curb 'no parking at any time' zone would be the
safest thing to do to prevent the possibility of accidents from occurring, and
to ensure that emergency vehicles always can access the houses in the court.

#547 Fruitvale Ave at Saratoga Ave
Date Received: September 21, 2022
Street name and cross street(s)
where the traffic safety concern
is occurring:
Fruitvale esp. from Career Way to Saratoga Ave, and Saratoga and Fruitvale
Description of traffic safety
concern:
The bike path is this area is poor and often non-existent on Fruitvale. The
pavement is uneven, and decrepit in parts even where the road as recently
been repaved. In one place, the bike path logo is painted across a
gutter/ditch. Turning left from Saratoga to Fruitvale is hazardous because
there is no room for bikes at the corner, where the flower bed is on the
library corner. Recently some kids yelled at me from their mini-van (opening
the sliding door to do so): Get off the road, bit**. So for starters, the area
could use some "share the road" signs to develop an accepting road culture.
Fruitvale goes by at least 2 schools (I'm commuting to WVC), the post office,
civic buildings and library. So this makes it more incredulous that this road in
Page 2 of 3
unsafe for bikers. In addition, bikers tend to make Saratoga streets
destinations and we support your businesses. (I was recently at fish and chips
place, and the cafe, which is a bikers' hot spot)
This is the only part of my daily commute that is troublesome and I can't think
of an efficient way to reroute it. A lot of those parents and adults that
complain that they don't bike because it's too dangerous, so they drive....well
usually I think that's a cop-out, but I'd seriously think about sending my kid to
school on a bike along this stretch.
Suggestions to address the
traffic safety concern:
- I love flowers and nature, but I think a 3 foot trim on the Saratoga/Fruitvale
Library corner to install some bike room would be helpful.
- Putting up a few "Share the road" signs
- Marking the bike paths in green especially in front of public buildings and
schools.
- On the next repave of Fruitvale, have the pavers consider the road as a
whole unit, and pave it evenly across. If a gutter is needed, find a way to not
have it part of the bike path. BTW: right now because of the recent storm the
gutter path area is pretty filled with detritus.
Additional comments from
resident:
I am a student at WVC, a bike commuter there 2x a week and a driver 2x a
week. Additionally, I enjoy riding in Saratoga for pleasure and exercise. I live
in Sunnyvale at the base of of the bike bridge, so riding, my preferred route is
past De Anza, down Prospect to the Neighborhood and the heavily biked
Camino de Arguello, down Cox to the train tracts, onto Green Brae, to
Scotland , across Saratoga and down Fruitvale to Career way. This is basically
the best route Google gives me. I've tried other routes, but they are longer,
hillier and don't avoid the Fruitvale issues. Anyone of bike coming from my
direction to WVC, the middle school or Post Office has to deal with this
issue as well. Driving, I take 85 to Saratoga to Fruitvale and turn-in at
Allendale, retracing this on the way out, so I'm aware of the car perspective.
It's also hairy as I'm sure you know.
My updated observations:
Saratoga Ave. is well bike-laned if you are heading to the village. This route
isn't usually very busy either. Most of the other areas I bike in Saratoga are
very bike friendly, contrary to perhaps the mood of my first note.
If I cross Saratoga at Scotland, I can take the somewhat bumpy, but paved
pedestrian path that is marked at least in one direction as being available to
bikes. However, this takes me to Allendale, across from WVC. There is not a
suitable / bike friendly place to cross here and get to the central part of the
campus. You are on the wrong side of road, the speed limit for cars on
Allendale is pretty fast 35. I ended up taking the green light turn back on to
Fruitvale and riding up to Career, the next exit left which I usually use. It's
better just to stay on Fruitvale.
The traffic problem is pretty bad, I'm wondering if an on ramp to 85 has been
closed. It's a problem at 2:00 pm in the afternoon, at 12:30 pm, I'd hate to
think what it's like at 4:00. Everyone is trying to take Fruitvale to Saratoga
using the right lane where the bikes need to be as well, and then get onto the
onramp south 85. When I'm driving, I am blocked by the two lanes of
Fruitvale traffic - most of them headed South 85, some straight on Saratoga,
few N 85. So it's a real bottle neck and to but bikes in the factoring as well,
well, yes, it's tough, not a simple problem.
Why are all those people driving that way to get onto 85? That's what
perplexes me.
Anyways, I hope my ghost bike doesn't appear in the flower bed by the library
someday, but I do realize it is a difficult traffic issue and Saratoga, for the
most part has great biking roads

#548 Aspesi Dr at Metler Ct
Date Received: October 3, 2022
Street name and cross street(s)
where the traffic safety concern
is occurring:
Aspesi Drive and Metler Court
Description of traffic safety
concern:
Cars are consistently over-speeding on Aspesi Drive and never stops at the
Stop sign at the intersection of Aspesi and Metler. We have several kids and
pets in the neighborhood and we are seeing this problem on a daily basis with
multiple neighbors voicing this concern.
Suggestions to address the
traffic safety concern:
Can we get increased police patrol here to avoid such overspeeding and
ensure that we don't have any major accidents in the neighborhood.

#549 St Charles St
Date Received: October 9, 2022
Street name and cross street(s)
where the traffic safety concern
is occurring:
Saint Charles St
Description of traffic safety
concern:
There are lots of passing by traffic on St Charles St to bypass the downtown
area. Those drivers drove very fast, which is dangerous to the kids living on St
Charles St. Could the city install speed sign and speed bump on St Charles St?
Just like Lomita Ave, which has a 15MPH speed limit sign and several speed
bump. Thanks!
Suggestions to address the
traffic safety concern:
Install 15MPH speed limit sign and some speed bumps on St Charles St.

Date Received: October 14, 2022
Street name and cross street(s)
where the traffic safety concern
is occurring:
1. fruitvale and farewell
2. fruitvale and three oaks
Description of traffic safety
concern:
There are no pedestrian lights at both these cross walks. It is very dangerous
especially at night when pedestrians cross the cross walks as the cars cannot
see them.
Suggestions to address the
traffic safety concern:
Please put lights on both these cross walks.

#551 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd
Date Received: October 25, 2022
Street name and cross street(s)
where the traffic safety concern
is occurring:
Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd
Description of traffic safety
concern:
the speed limit on Saratoga Sunnyvale road between Saratoga elementary
and Saratoga High school.
Now the speed limit is 40, a lot of cars drive 45-50. The sign “25 wenn the
children are present” is only near SHS, but many students walk or bike to or
from down town Saratoga.
The traffic issues at our schools are priority, and more students could walk to
schools if the roads would be safer, which would make it easier on parents
and help the environment drastically. A lot of parents don’t allowed their
Page 2 of 2
children to walk or bike to school, because they are afraid of traffic accidents
due to the high speed limit.
Also if children walk or bike to school, the environment would benefit. We
have to try to slow down climate change and this is the first step. This will
also help having a cleaner air.
Suggestions to address the
traffic safety concern:
Reduce speed limit to 30
