RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION
IN THE AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES GLOBAL NETWORK&USE OF THE CITY SEAL IN THE 2023
AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES SURVEY
WHEREAS,the global population of people age 60 or over is expected to grow from 600 million in the year 2000
to almost 2 billion by the year 2050; and
WHEREAS, currently, older adults in Saratoga account for 25% of the population and this is expected to grow to
36%of the population by the year 2060; and
WHEREAS, a Global Network of Age-Friendly Communities has been established to encourage and promote
public policies that support active aging and improved health, well-being, satisfaction, and quality of life for older adults;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Saratoga,through its policy decisions, supports programs, services, and resources for its
senior population; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saratoga has been designated as an Age Friendly Community because of its efforts that
help older adults age in place and remain engaged in their community; and
WHEREAS,as part of the ongoing commitments to remain an Age Friendly Community,the Saratoga Area Senior
Coordinating Council is conducting a survey of older adults and has requested use of the City seal on the survey;
WHEREAS, in accordance with City Code Section 2-05.040, no organization other than the City may use the City
seal except upon approval of the City Council by ordinance or resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Saratoga hereby supports initiatives and
opportunities to engage in the Age-Friendly Communities Global Network by encouraging and promoting public policies
and projects in support of healthy and active aging;and,authorizes the City Manager to execute documents and take further
actions as may be necessary for the City's continued participation in the Age-Friendly Communities Global Network.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Saratoga hereby authorizes use of the City of Saratoga
seal in the 2023 Age Friendly Communities Survey.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a special meeting of the Saratoga City Council held on the
27th day of March 2023 by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS AFTAB, PAGE, WALIA, VICE MAYOR ZHAO, MAYOR FITZSIMMONS
