The Commission in turn recommended City Council approval of the locations at the September 19, 2022 meeting. With two of the three utility box locations under the jurisdiction of the State of California, staff had to determine if it would be possible for the City to include these boxes in the Paint the City program before taking the locations to the City Council for consideration. Staff was able to determine that the State does allow utility boxes to be painted and the City Council approved the proposed locations at the February 1, 2023. Subsequently, the application process was opened. The application period will close on March 12. The next step in the process is for the be selection of up to 3 designs per utility box location. The committee will review qualified applications at the March 15 meeting, identifying proposed top 3 selections for the Commission to consider at the March 20 meeting. Once approved by the Commission, the community will be invited to rank the designs at each location. The highest ranked designs will be presented to the Commission then the City Council to be accepted.
