T0: Parks and Recreation Commission DATE: Feb. 2, 1987
FROM: Secretary, Parks and Recreation Commission
SUBJECT: Meeting of February 2, 1987
At the January 12th meeting a public hearing was held on the
problem of dogs in the parks. Commission decided, since leash
laws were not being obeyed or enforced, to recommend to Council
that dogs be banned from City parks. A draft of our
recommendation to council will be available at tonight's meeting.
The Commission's proposals for building a bridge for handicapped
access to Wildwood Park and a group barbeque area at El Quito
Park were submitted for CDBG funding. Tonight we will discuss
these projects in further detail. We will also discuss possible
projects to be funded by the Community Parklands Act of 1986.
These funds may be used for a) rehabilitation, improvement or
restoration of deteriorated roads, utilities and other structures
& facilities within existing parks and recreational areas, b)
neighborhood, community and regional parks, c) beaches and
public accessways to beaches, d) historical sites and
structures, e) recreational areas and facilities, f) hiking,
bicycling and equestrian trails, g) development rights and
scenic easements in connection with any acquisition made for any
purpose specified in subdivisions (b) to (f) inclusive so long as
the right or easement directly enhances the enjoyment or
usefulness of the acquisition. Let's see if we can come up with
some good ideas for projects which are eligible under these
guidelines.
Please contact Sharon if you will be unable to attend the
meeting.

FROM: Secretary, Parks and Recreation Commission
SUBJECT: Meeting of January 12, 1987
Happy new year! A special thanks to John and Rena Saunders for
the Christmas party. It was great.
Commission Officers will be elected at tonight's meeting.
Tonight, a public hearing to discuss the problems caused by dogs
in the parks. Notices have been published and also sent to
concerned citizens.
The enclosed draft of the city-wide Parks and Recreation Survey
is for your review. The Commission is-being asked for its input
as to the adequacy of the form.
Even though the deadline is January 12, we can still submit a
project to be considered for Community Development Block Grant
monies for FY 1987/88. Please feel free to make suggestions for
a project you think might qualify under the guidelines enclosed
in your packet.
The City Manager has relieved Joan Pisani of her Library
Commission responsibilities so that she can attend the Parks and
Recreation Commission meetings. We hope that this will provide
sufficient interface between departments to meet all the
recreational needs within Saratoga.
Due to a scheduling conflict, tonight's meeting wil l be held in
the Arts and Crafts Room of the Community Center.
Please contact Sharon if you will be unable to attend the
meeting.
