FROM: Secretary, Parks & Recreation Commission
SUBJECT: Meeting of December 5, 1988
II. A. Authorization is required to proceed with the final
report on Brookglen Park and a report to Council asking for
funding for the renovation project this winter.
Recommended action: Authorize staff to proceed.
II. B. The deadline to apply for the Conservation Bond Act of
1988 funds is January 13, 1989. We must decide tonight how the
funds will be used so that the application process can begin.
Staff feels improvement of Wildwood Park is our first priority.
This will involve expansion of the picnic areas, including
addition of barbecues and picnic tables; construction of a sand
volleyball court; reestablishing the turf and irrigation system.
Estimated cost is $40,000. The balance of $51,000 can be used
for the replacement of all deteriorating and unsafe play
structures at various parks including: E1 Quito, Kevin Moran,
Congress Springs and Wildwood.
Recommended action: Make a final decision on how the Bond money
will be used.
II. C. We will vote on allowing Little League to display a
memorial plaque on the east wall of the snack shack at Congress
Springs Park as described in the letter from Dr. John
Taughinbaugh and to allow other youth groups to use the wall for
similar purposes.
Recommended action: Vote to allow display of memorial plaques on
the east wall of the snack shack.
III. A. More than a year ago the Commission was asked by City
Council to get information on facilities at local schools. A
