SUBJECT: Recreation Programs
The Recreation Department`s winter programs are in full swing and staff is
busy planning many new exciting activities for the spring and summer.
Approximately 20 new classes will begin in March ar~d April offering a wide
variety of programs to people of all ages. Special new classes for teems
will include Golf Lessons, Cotillion Ballroom Daricir~g ar~d Tie Lying.
Exercise classes continue to be popular and two new fitness programs will bf
introduced in the spring. For children r~ew classes will include Merry Music
Makers, Watch It Grow (a gardening class at E1 Quito Park) and Animal
Balloom Tying. Folk Az"t Dollmaking, Dream Interpretation and a Fixit Class
will be new for adults.
The City`s co-ed softball league was very successful last summer and will be
expanded to include a men's league. The length of the season will double
and each team will have the .opportunity to play 14 games. League games wil.
beg ire May 2 and continue ur~t i 1 the n, idd le of August . 16 teams w i 11
participate and all games will be held at E1 Quito Park, Monday through
Tru~rsrlay evenings .
A new c?ay camp program will be added to the Recreation Department`s suu,mer
offerings, The nature camp will continue to be held at Wildwood Park and
the r~ew program will utilize El Quito Park. Each site will offer 8 sessions
for children ages 3.5 - 10 years. The City will soon begin recruitment at
colleges throughout California for summer recreation leaders and camp aides.
As space allows, the Recreation staff will cor~tiriue to offer new classes anc
activities. Currently many Community Center classes are held in the Senior
Center. Soon, usage of this facility for recreation programs will be
limited as senior citizen programs expand. With spring and summer just
around the corner the Recreation Department will be able to utilize some of
the parks in Saratoga far activities, I am very optimistic about the future
success of the new programs offered at the community Center and other
locations in Saratoga,
